MONROE - Last weekend the Monroe Avalanche girls U12 hockey team skated to a 6-2 win over Baraboo Saturday at SLICE.
Midway into the first period, Alyssa Knauf opened the scoring for the Avalanche with an assist from Tessa Janecke. Then just 33 seconds later, Emma Ness scored the Avalanche's second goal, assisted by Anika Einbeck. Then about two minutes later, the Avalanche scored their third goal with a repeat of Emma Ness scoring assisted by Einbeck.
Midway into the second period, Baraboo scored their first goal of the game. Then Ness added two more unassisted goals for the Avalanche followed by the Avalanche's last goal of the game by Tessa Janecke assisted by Haley Knauf. Baraboo scored near the end of the third period but it was not enough.
The defense consisting of Cammi Ganshert, Haley Knauf and Sara Nicholas kept the opponents at bay. The Avalanche U12 Girls team is now 1-1 on the season.

Squirts edge Polar Caps, tie Janesville J-Hawks
On Saturday, Nov. 12, the Avalanche Squirt A team knocked off the Madison Polar Caps 3-2.
The Polar Caps took the lead in the first period 1-0. The Avalanche answered back with two goals, both score by Cade Janecke. The goals were assisted by Emma Ness and Joe Wyss. In the third period, the Polar Caps scored a game-tying goal. With 3:13 to go in the game, Tessa Janecke from the Avalanche scored the winning goal. Goalie Heath Bear recorded 12 saves.
On Sunday, the Avalanche hosted the Janesville J-Hawks Squirt A team. The J-Hawks scored two goals in the first period.
Travis Edmunds from the Avalanche scored unassisted less than two minutes into the second period. With 2:26 left in the third period, Tessa Janecke scored the last unassisted goal of the game, with an ending in a 2-2 tie. Bear recorded 22 saves for this game.
Avalanche Squirt B shut out Beloit
On Saturday, Nov. 12, the Avalanche Squirt B took on Beloit at SLICE winning in a shutout 1-0.
The Avalanche goal was scored by Luke Kuberski. Jayden Johnson had 36 saves along with tough defense to pull off the win. The same night the Avalanche Squirt B traveled to McFarland suffering a lost 6-3. Goals were scored by Luke Kuberski. Johnson again had 36 saves.
On Sunday, Nov. 13, the Avalanche Squirt B traveled to Beloit and gained another shutout win against Beloit 1-0. Camden Steinmann scored the only goal.
Kaiden Klitzke and Bryce Montgomery provided defense for the shutout. On Saturday, the Avalanche Squirt B takes on Dodgeville at 11 a.m. at SLICE.
