MONROE - The Monroe Avalanche youth hockey U10 girls team opened the season Saturday, Nov. 9 with a pair of wins over the Viroqua Thunder U10 girls and a loss to DC Diamonds U10 of Madison on Sunday, Nov. 10.
Monroe knocked off Viroqua 6-5 in a fast-paced game. Anna Malone had the first goal. Rebecka Rath had four goals, Lilla Bauer had one goal and one assist and Marlies Brandli added one assist.
The second game was more defense than offense with goals coming from Brandli, Bauer and Megan Peters to give the Avalanche a 3-2 win. Breleigh Stuart, Rath and Bauer received credit for assists.
Sunday's game against the DC Diamonds proved to be a challenge. The DC Diamonds skated to a 6-3 win.
Goals were scored by Brandli, Bauer and Malone. Jaylan Schmidt got her first assist.
The Monroe U10 team is coached by Gottlieb Brandli Jr. and Adam Bauer.
