MONROE - The Monroe girls tennis team lost a nail-biter to McFarland 4-3 Tuesday.
Monroe junior Eva Priewe at No. 2 singles and junior Katie Demianiuk at No. 3 singles won 6-3, 6-1.
The Cheesemakers' senior No. 1 doubles duo of Erin Gellings and Paige Prien lost in three sets to the Spartans 4-6, 6-4, 7-6 (7).
"Paige and Erin played their hearts out," Monroe coach Tim Walsh said. "The crowd was sitting on the edge of their seats."
Walsh is confident the Cheesemakers are on the upswing.
"We could easily be 2-1 in conference instead of 1-2," he said. "We had some really great performances from Eva Priewe, Katie Demianiuk and Amber Jenson and Maggie Setterstrom in doubles."
