Redbirds sweep small school titles

SPRING GREEN - Darlington swept boys and girls small school cross country titles at Saturday's River Valley Invitational.

Tyson Miehe, a freshman, won in the 18-team varsity small schools competition with a time of 16 minutes, 20 seconds while older brother Kent, a junior, posted a sixth-place finish to help Darlington win with 41 points, easily outdistancing second-place New Glarus-Monticello (85).

New Glarus-Monticello sophomore Ryan McCoy finished second with a time of 16:30 and teammate Wesley Morgan was 16th (17:45).

The Redbirds had four of the top 11 runners with senior Connor Roche taking ninth (17:27) and Mjunior Michael Sinclair 11th (17:30).

Pecatonica-Argyle finished fifth and was led by Cameron Colson, who took seventh (17:24), senior Chris James who took 18th (17:46) and junior Wyatt Massey who was 23rd (17:54).

Albany finished sixth and was led by senior Drew Mather, who was fifth (17:08) and junior Reece Whitehead who was 13th (17:31).

On the girls side, Darlington secured the victory when No. 6 runner Kayla Lange beat Viroqua's sixth runner. Lange and No. 7 runner Harley Douglas each finished ahead of Viroqua's fifth runner as well.

The Redbirds had four of the top 11 runners led by sophomore Cheyenne Wolfe who was sixth (16:09) and sophomore Christa Wamsley, ninth (16:33). Junior Amy Jorgenson finished 10th (16:36) and junior Hannah Robiolio took 11th (16:39).

Pecatonica-Argyle junior Kendra Sigg took fifth (16:15) to lead the Vikings.

New Glarus-Monticello finished eighth overall. New Glarus-Monticello junior LouAnn Judd finished 18th (17:04) and sophomore Madeline Brunner took 47th (17:55).
