MONROE - The Milton girls soccer team rolled to an 8-1 win over Monroe in a Badger South Conference game Thursday at Honey Creek Park.
"They are a very good team," Monroe coach Kyle Kasten said of Milton. "I'm not sure why they are not ranked, but I think they could be ranked in the top 10 in the state in Division 2. They are a very talented group of girls. They have a very aggressive style."
Milton scored four goals in the first half and improved to 4-1 in the Badger South in a third-place tie with Monona Grove. Madison Edgewood (4-0-1 Badger South) and Oregon 3-0-1) are atop the conference.
Monroe drops to 6-8-2 overall and 1-4 in the Badger South.
One of the highlights for the Cheesemakers was senior Payton Noble scoring on a header off a rebound to cut the Red Hawks' lead to 4-1.
Kasten had a clear message to the Cheesemakers at the half as they trailed 4-1.
"I definitely think we didn't stay on our marks," Kasten said. "A few of their goals came from us standing and not staying on our marks. They were a team with great movement. The main thing is we wanted to prevent the counter attacks."
Monroe sophomore goalie Anna Latimer had 16 saves. The loss snapped a two game win streak by the Cheesemakers.
Monroe has two more games before the regional tournament starts June 1. The Cheesemakers play at Cambridge on Tuesday and then at Stoughton May 26 to close out the regular season.
"There are not many teams in our Division 3 sectional who have played teams like Oregon, Madison Edgewood and Milton," Kasten said. "The schedule has prepared us to make a run in the regional."
