STEVENS POINT — UW-Stevens Point Director of Athletics Brad Duckworth announced on Wednesday (April 13) that Diane Gilbert has been named to the role of Assistant Athletic Director and Senior Woman Administrator.

A 2001 Monroe graduate, Gilbert (formerly Hawkins) now resides in Plover with her husband, Grayson, daughter, Natalie, and son, Griffin.

“In my time working with Diane, she has consistently taken on more and more,” said Duckworth. “Everything she has been asked to do, she has done well and has continued to grow. It was clear throughout the search process we had the right person already doing a lot of the components of the job. To start here as a student-athlete and work to assistant athletic director shows her commitment to Pointers athletics. Diane already has been, and will continue to be, a great asset to everyone on staff. I am looking forward to working with her to continue to grow our department and to best serve our student-athletes. Diane’s hire even further strengthens our entire department.”

Gilbert has been a member of the UWSP athletic department for the last 12 years as the top assistant coach for the UWSP women’s basketball program. The Pointers went 214-124 while Gilbert was a member of the coaching staff, including five NCAA Tournament appearances and four WIAC Tournament titles. She also led the UWSP women’s golf program for the past two seasons.

“I am both honored and humbled to accept this position within the UWSP Athletics Department,” stated Gilbert. “A heart felt thank you to Brad Duckworth and our entire athletics staff for entrusting me to serve in this role at a place I am so passionate about. The energy and enthusiasm I felt during my interview process with our staff only solidifies why this is one of the best NCAA Division III athletic programs in the nation. I look forward to working alongside my colleagues, and serving our student-athletes by creating impactful experiences in competition, on campus and in the community. A big thank you to my family, their support during my time as a Pointer is appreciated and their sacrifices have not gone unnoticed. As an alum I am excited for this next chapter with my family in the Stevens Point community.”

Gilbert is no stranger to success at UWSP. She was a member of the UWSP women’s basketball team from 2001-05 and was a member of the 2002 National Championship team. She was inducted into the UWSP Athletics Hall of Fame in 2008.

In addition to coaching, her tenure at UWSP has including working as NCAA Compliance and Eligibility Coordinator, Student Success Coordinator for Athletics, Associate Lecturer and serving on the Athletics Hall of Fame committee among the litany of other duties.

Gilbert graduated from UWSP with a bachelor of science in health promotion and wellness in 2006. She earned her master’s in education from Edgewood in 2009, where she also served as a graduate assistant coach.
