UWSP and UW-Whitewater to host NCAA baseball regionals

MADISON — University of Wisconsin-Stevens Point and UW-Whitewater have received bids into the NCAA Division III Baseball Championship and will host four-team, double-elimination regional competition May 20-22. 

This is the first time that two Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (WIAC) schools have hosted NCAA regional competition in the same year. 

UW-Stevens Point (34-7) claimed an automatic bid into the 60-team field by winning the WIAC tournament title. The Pointers will open regional action against Lawrence University (Wis.) (26-11). The regional will also feature North Central College (Ill.) (33-12) and Coe College (Iowa) (21-19). UW-Stevens Point is making its 17th NCAA appearance and first since 2015. 

UW-Whitewater (33-8) received one of 19 at-large bids into the championship. The Warhawks will face Milwaukee School of Engineering (Wis.) (27-16) in their first game. Also participating in the regional are Aurora University (Ill.) (33-9) and Augustana College (Ill.) (33-10). UW-Whitewater is making 24th NCAA appearance in program history, including national titles in 2005 and 2014. 

The 16 regional winners will advance to super regional action May 27-28. The NCAA Division III Baseball World Series will be held at Perfect Game Field at Veterans Memorial Stadium in Cedar Rapids, Iowa, June 3-7/8.
