MONROE RECAP>

Baseball (3-5, 2-4 Badger South):> Monroe rallied for five runs in the bottom of the seventh inning to steal a victory from the jaws of defeat in a 7-6, walkoff win over McFarland at home Tuesday evening. Junior rightfielder Mike Demianiuk made amends for one of several badly-misplayed balls by Monroe's defense during the Spartans' three-run sixth by driving in Nate Barta for the game-winning run.

Softball (10-2, 5-1 Badger South): >Heavy-hitting, host McFarland locked in on Monroe's pitchers at the end of an 11-3 completed suspended game Tuesday evening before putting a 5-2 loss on the Cheeseamakers in the nightcap.

Track and Field: >After both the boys and girls squads ran through the rain to victory Friday at the Wisconsin Heights Invitational, the teams ran into twin buzzsaws when Verona visited and took both dual meets Tuesday evening.

Tennis (4-2, 3-0 Badger South): >After winning 9 of 20 matches at Saturday's windy Beaver Dam Invitational, the Cheesemakers lost all of 11 games in Tuesday's 7-0 Badger South sweep of Stoughton.

Soccer (0-6-1, 0-4 Badger South): >Monroe played another fine possession game and even out-shot the Silver Eagles 15-14 Monday on Monona Grove's home pitch but could not find the net. Erin Bork, meanwhile, scored the first Eagles goal and assisted on the next two.

Golf (1-2 overall and Badger South): >Having only sparsely practiced at the Monroe Country Club this rainy season, there was little home course advantage Tuesday evening when Stoughton stole a 156-157 dual meet victory.

AREA BASEBALL>

Quick counter: >After Monticello rallied to tie Monday's Six Rivers game at 6-6 in Argyle, the Orioles defended their nest with a run in the bottom half. Lefty Andy Bohlman converted the three-inning save, allowing just one hit thereafter while striking out six.

Take that: >Black Hawk dealt with blustery weather Monday night as Alex Abraham struck out 15 batters in a payback, 9-1 Six Rivers East victory over visiting Juda.

AREA SOFTBALL>

Road Warriors resilient: >After struggling to enjoy their home field advantage in a chilly doubleheader sweep of Juda Monday evening, Black Hawk scored two runs in the top of the seventh inning to answer hosting Albany's two-run rally in a 4-2 Six Rivers East victory on Tuesday.

AREA TRACK AND FIELD>

Vikings vamped up: >Much the way the Cheesemakers were unfazed by the rain at Friday night's Wisconsin Heights Invitational, the Lady Vikings' stars also came out to shine in Mazomanie. Mid-distance specialist Elise Sigg won both the 800-meter run (2:34.91) and the 1,600 (5:43.2). Holly Vlasak, Kimee Chandler, Cassie Welch and Ariel Noble added victories in both the 4x100 and 4x200 relays.
