Ponies roll over Albany

MONTICELLO - Few volleyball teams are as hot as Monticello heading into the WIAA regional tournament.

The Ponies took care of business Thursday night, rolling to a 25-17, 25-18, 29-27 win over Albany. It's the seventh straight win for the Ponies.

Monticello coach Scott Smice used several different lineups on Senior Night, but he was happy with the result.

"It didn't matter who we plugged in," Smice said. "They did their job. Albany was a scrappy and tough team. The seniors are pushing hard. They don't want their season to end."

Monticello senior Jordyn Kubly had 11 kills and junior Marissa Berg added 10 kills and four aces. Junior Clare Bruns racked up 28 assists, while senior Amy Silver had six kills and three blocks. Katie Nelson had 14 digs for the Ponies.

Albany senior Kirstie Kauk notched five kills and two aces. Sophomore Alexis Kennedy had 17 digs, and junior Felicia Conley had eight assists.

Barneveld 3, Pecatonica 0

BARNEVELD - The Golden Eagles swept the Vikings to clinch the Six Rivers East Conference championship.

Barneveld knocked off Pecatonica 29-27, 25-13, 25-12.

Pecatonica senior Michelle Francois racked up 33 digs and 15 assists.

Black Hawk 3, Juda 2

SOUTH WAYNE - After dropping the first set, the Panthers were on the verge of coming back to beat the Warriors. The Panthers won the next two games 25-12, 25-19, but couldn't pull out three straight games. The Warriors won the fourth game 25-7 and the decisive fifth game 15-9.

Black Hawk junior Mikayla Sigafus had a match-high 14 kills, and senior Kelly Neuenschwander notched 13 assists. Junior Kortney Hull had two blocks and junior Tessa Cushman had four aces.

Juda was led by senior Brittany Moe who had 12 kills and junior Tabatha Davis who racked up 21 assists. Junior Jessica Jordan and Moe each tallied four aces, while senior Cassie Benner had three blocks.

Wis. Heights 3, New Glarus 0

NEW GLARUS - The Glarner Knights fell to Capitol South-leading Wisconsin Heights in three games at home Thursday night, 25-19, 25-16, 25-18.

The Knights were led by Karina Moen who notched five kills and a block. Mandi Sargent added a block of her own, Alaina Legler and Annie Jones tied for the team lead in aces with one apiece, and Legler led the team in assists with 13.

The Vanguards were led by Kayla Nelson who recorded 12 kills. Kaitlyn Duhr led the team in digs with 26.
