NG sweeps Wis. Heights, scores 25 runs

MAZOMANIE — Landon Stelter was a large part of New Glarus’s doubleheader sweep of Wisconsin Heights on Friday, April 19. The infielder was 5-for-8 with three doubles and five RBIs, earning the team’s Golden Shovel Award.

In Game 1, New Glarus won 10-6. The Knights narrowly outhit the Vanguards 13-10 but drew nine walks to Wisconsin Heights’ zero. Stelter was 3-for-5 with an RBI. Braden Rear, Jake Roth and Patrick Alt also recorded multiple-hit games. Designated hitter Zander Hauser drove in two runs.

Alt collected the win, giving up four earned runs on nine hits. He struck out eight and didn’t issue a walk. Matt Roth pitched an inning of one-hit relief.

In Game 2, the Knights run-ruled the Vanguards 15-2 in five innings. Stelter was 2-for-3 with two doubles and four RBIs. Nathan Hendrickson also played a key role, going 2-for-3 with three runs scored and three RBIs. Ashlin Mihlbauer and Hauser tallied two hits each, while Matt Roth and Rear reached base three times via walk.

Leyton Mihlbauer was the pitcher of record. He gave up just one earned run on three hits. He struck out five and walked one.


DODGEVILLE 9, MONROE 8

MONROE 6, DODGEVILLE 5

MONROE — The Cheesemakers split a highly contested doubleheader with the Dodgers on Saturday, April 20.

In Game 1, Monroe kept pace with Dodgeville offensively, but five errors on defense plagued the team. Eli Schaefer, Ethan Rosenstiel, Cam Newcomer and Blake Drafall collected two hits each. Keegan Dahmen, who was 1-for-4, drove in two runs.

Ian Berg was charged with the loss, giving up two unearned runs on three hits. He struck out one and walked one.

Monroe took Game 2 in extra innings, thanks to a leadoff single from Schaefer. Dahmen then moved him over with a sacrifice bunt, and Schaefer scored on an error. Berg got revenge, shutting the Dodgers down in the bottom of the frame for the win.

Schaefer finished 2-for-4 with two runs scored to lead the offense. Cole Meighan, who was 1-for-3, reached base twice via walk. Berg picked up the win, throwing three innings of hitless relief. He struck out three and walked one.

PECATONICA 12, SHULLSBURG-BENTON 4

BLANCHARDVILLE — Twelve hits made up for five errors in the field as the Vikings cruised to a Six Rivers Conference crossover win on Friday, April 19.

The top of the order — Tyler McKeon, Jameson Johnson and Elijah Knutson — went a combined 7-for-11 with five runs scored. Each batter had an extra-base hit, with Johnson smashing a three-run homerun in the second.

Pecatonica used three pitchers in the game, with Knutson earning the win. He pitched 3 1/3 innings of one-hit ball. He struck out six and walked one.


PECATONICA 8, FENNIMORE 1

BLANCHARDVILLE — The Viking pitching staff stifled the Golden Eagles in a nonconference win on Saturday, April 20. Jameson Johnson and Drew Henrickson allowed just one earned run on six hits. The pair struck out 11 and didn’t issue a free pass.

At the plate, Knutson kept his hot bat from Friday. The senior went 2-for-4 with two RBIs. No. 5 hitter Austin Enloe also went 2-for-4.


BELMONT 13, MONTICELLO-ALBANY 0

BELMONT — The Ponies tallied just three hits in two games, suffering a doubleheader sweep to Belmont on Friday, April 19.

Tyler Constantini and Cody Pryce accounted for the only hits. Pryce was charged with the loss in Game 1, giving up two earned runs on two hits. He struck out two and walked three. Tyler Patchen started Game 2, taking the loss. He gave up six earned runs on four hits. He struck out one but walked three.


HIGHLAND 9, 

ARGYLE-BLACK HAWK 5

HIGHLAND — A five-run third was not enough for the Orioles in a Six Rivers Conference crossover game on Friday, April 19. 

Trent Bidlingmaier, Will Helfvogt and Jackson Berget tallied the only hits of the game. Collectively, ABH drew 11 walks. Helfvogt took the loss, giving up four earned runs on four hits. He struck out one but walked three.


DELAVAN-DARIEN 5, BRODHEAD-JUDA 2

DELAVAN — The Cardinals’ seventh-inning comeback fell short, as the Comets prevailed in a Rock Valley Conference game on Friday, April 19. Ryan Searls led off the inning with a single, and Neil Janssen issued three walks in the inning, including one to Evan Senobe with the bases juiced.

Gabe Bockhop and Searls accounted for the only hits of the game. In fact, the Cardinals drew more walks (6) than hits (2). Senobe suffered the loss, giving up five runs on three hits. He struck out seven and walked five.
