Juda-Albany suffers pair of walk offs, rebounds in Monroe Tournament

MONROE — Juda-Albany, ranked No. 5 in Division 5 per the April 16 WisSports.net Coaches Poll, suffered a pair of walk-off losses in Six Rivers contests April 18-19. The Panthers then rebounded to win two of its three games in the Monroe Tournament on Saturday, April 20.


BENTON-SHULLSBURG 7, 

JUDA-ALBANY 6

SHULLSBURG — Despite scoring two runs in the top of the ninth, Juda-Albany gave up three runs in the bottom of the seventh to Benton-Shullsburg, including a walk-off hit to Ries Stluka.

The Panthers had tied the game in the top of the fifth with an RBI single from Alana Durtschi. She came around to score on an error by the third baseman after stealing both second and third.

Avary Briggs, Myah Johnson and Kierra Cleasby tallied two hits each. Avary Briggs got the start, going 3 1/3 innings. She gave up two earned runs on five hits, striking out three and walking four. Emerson Briggs pitched five innings of relief and suffered the loss. She gave up three earned runs on five hits and struck out seven.


BARNEVELD 4, JUDA-ALBANY 3

BARNEVELD — The No. 5 Panthers fell in the bottom of the seventh to the No. 8 Eagles with a walk-off hit from Tatum Thousand. Haedyn Swenson had led off the inning with a triple to right. Juda-Albany then intentionally walked Isabel Leahy and Anessa Schmitz to create force outs at each of the bases. Thousand then hit a 2-2 single past a diving Avary Briggs at shortstop.

Avary Briggs accounted for two of the team’s four hits and its only RBI. She got the start and gave up two unearned runs on just two hits. She struck out one but walked three. Anna Bartels pitched 2 2/3 innings relief, but Alana Durtschi was charged with the loss. She recorded two outs in the seventh, giving up two hits.

JUDA-ALBANY 7, FREEPORT 5

MONROE — Alana Durtschi was a homerun away from hitting for the cycle in Juda-Albany’s opening game of the Monroe Tournament. The senior was 3-for-3 with a double, triple and four RBIs to propel her team.

Avary Briggs, Anna Ellinger and Emerson Briggs also recorded multiple-hit games. Anna Bartels pitched just 2/3 innings in the start, but Emerson Briggs cooled the Pretzels. She pitched 5 1/3 innings relief for the win, giving up one earned run on seven hits.


JUDA-ALBANY 8, ORANGEVILLE 3

MONROE — A four-run seventh gave Juda-Albany the insurance it needed its second game of the tournament. Durtschi kept the inning alive with a 2-out RBI double, scoring Avary Briggs. Johnson reached on an error, and Emerson Briggs and Phoenix Homan drove in one run each.

Homan, despite collecting just one hit, let the team with three RBIs. Emerson Briggs was 1-for-2 with two RBIs and two walks. Avary Briggs and Durtschi collected two hits each.

Avary Briggs pitched a complete game, giving up one earned run on four hits. She struck out five and didn’t issue a walk.


TOMAHAWK 6, JUDA-ALBANY 5

MONROE — The Hatchets outhit the Panthers 13-6 in the Monroe Tournament finale.

Avary Briggs was 2-for-4 with one run scored as the leadoff hitter. Durtschi, who relieved Avary Briggs in the bottom of the sixth, suffered the loss. She gave up one earned run on three hits.


MONROE 13, TOMAHAWK 3

MONROE — Every Cheesemaker starter reached base in their opening game of the Strikeout Cancer Tournament. 

Kate Kundert was 2-for-3 with a double and four RBIs. Two-hole hitter Katrina Sathoff was 2-for-2 with two runs scored and three RBIs. Sophie Golembiewski and Brinley Roidt tallied two hits and two RBIs each. At leadoff, Kaegann Paulson was 3-for-4.

Paulson pitched a complete game in run-rule win. She gave up two earned runs on three hits, striking out five and walking three.


MONROE 12, REEDSBURG 4

MONROE — Golembiewski’s three-run bomb in the third lifted Monroe in the second game of its tournament. The junior finished 2-for-5 with five RBIs. 

Paulson and Roidt collected three hits each. Olivia Feller and Kundert also had multiple-hit games. Paulson went the distance in game two, giving up four earned runs on four hits. 



POTOSI-CASSVILLE 9, PECATONICA 3

POTOSI — Although the Vikings outhit the Chieftains 9-8, five errors plagued the team in a Six Rivers Conference crossover loss on Thursday, April 18.

Brooklyn Johnsrud was a triple short of hitting for the cycle, going 3-for-4 with three RBIs. Maddie Hirsch and Diana Hendrickson also recorded multiple-hit games. Hendrickson suffered the loss, giving up four earned runs on eight hits. She struck out three and walked three. 


HIGHLAND 3, 

MONTICELLO-NEW GLARUS 2

HIGHLAND — Six errors and just four hits were the Ponies’ down fall in a Six Rivers Conference crossover game against the No. 7 Cardinals on Thursday, April 18.

Leadoff batter Dalana Trumpy was 2-for-4 with two RBIs and two stolen bases to lead the offense. Tatum O’Bel suffered the loss, giving up three unearned runs on four hits. She struck out four and walked just one.


MONTICELLO-NEW GLARUS 9, PECATONICA 4

BLANCHARDVILLE — After two close losses to ranked teams, the Ponies used a four-run third to defeat the Vikings on Friday, April 19.

Trumpy, Karlee Wilkins and Megan Peterson recorded two hits each. Wilkins, Melanie Fink and Veronica Tollakson drove in two runs each. Kira Whisler picked up the win, giving up two earned runs on six hits. She struck out seven and walked four.

Johnsrud sent one deep against Whisler in in the seventh and finished 2-for-4 with three runs scored. It was her second homerun in as many days. Hirsch also collected two hits, one of which was a double. Hendrickson was charged with the loss, giving up eight earned runs on eight hits. She struck out nine and walked three.


ARGYLE-BLACK HAWK 21, BELLEVILLE 13

BELLEVILLE — The Oriole bats backed up 10 errors on defense, producing 16 hits in a nonconference victory over the Wildcats on Friday, April 19. There were 14 total errors in the game.

Sara Helfvogt paced ABH, going 3-for-5 with a triple, four runs scored and two RBIs. Alexis Rosenstiel also had a hot bat, going 3-for-4 with a triple, three runs scored and two RBIs. Mya McNett, who was 2-for-6, led the team with three RBIs. 

McNett also picked up the win in the circle, giving up six earned runs on eight hits. She struck out six but walked eight.
