MADISON - The Monroe Cheesemakers wrestling team nearly maxed out against the Madison Edgewood-Monona Grove co-op team Tuesday night.
The Cheesemakers won 12 of 14 weight classes either by pin or forfeit in a 72-12 blow-out of Madison Edgewood-Monona Grove in Badger Conference wrestling.
Monroe's fastest pins came from junior heavyweight Nick Walker in 48 seconds, and freshman Kevin Klopfenstein at 119 pounds in 55 seconds.
Junior Dylan Schwitz, a state qualifier last year at 135 pounds, wrestled Tuesday night at 145 pounds and won by pin in 1 minute, 44 seconds.
In all, the Cheesemakers scored eight pins and received forfeits at 103, 171 and 189 pounds. Madison Edgewood-Monona Grove's only points came by forfeits at 112 pounds and 160 pounds.
"I had a good idea that we would win, but I never expected to dominate the way we did," said Jeriamy Jackson, Monroe head coach. "The guys are wrestling with a lot of confidence and working hard right now. Hopefully that continues into the next couple of tournaments where the competition will be quite a bit tougher."
Monroe will wrestle at 10 a.m. Saturday at the Richland Center Invitational.
