Pecatonica sweeps Cassville

BLANCHARDVILLE - The Pecatonica baseball team got clutch-hitting and a big defensive performance to sweep a doubleheader against Cassville Friday.

Pecatonica edged Cassville 2-1 in the first game and then beat the Comets 9-1 in the night cap of the twinbill.

Pecatonica junior Kyle Kleppe went 5-for-7 in the doubleheader with a key solo home run in the second game.

Pecatonica (14-1, 12-1 Six Rivers East) turned six double plays with three in each game.

"We played outstanding defense," Pecatonica coach Jim Strommen said. "That was huge for us."

With the wins, the Vikings maintain a three-game conference lead over Barneveld and a five-game lead on Argyle.

"This is good sweep for us," Strommen said. "It still is anyone's conference to win. We still have nine conference games left."

Pecatonica sophomore A.J. Hendrickson pitched six innings to get the win in the first game. He gave up one run on four hits. He struck out six and walked four. Senior Drew Schliem pitched a shutout seventh to record the save.

Junior teammate Brooks Chandler and Kleppe were both 2-for-3 to lead the Vikings. Schliem had a two-run single in the third to propel the Vikings.

In the second game, Kleppe pitched six innings to earn the win. He gave up one run on seven hits. He struck out two and walked three. He helped his own cause at the plate going 3-for-4 with a home run. Dakota Conwell went 2-for-4 with two RBI and Schliem was 2-for-4 with a double.

The Vikings had a three-run third sparked by Conwell's RBI single and sophomore Presly Hauser's two-out, two-run double.



Darlington 5, Mineral Point 4

MINERAL POINT - The Redbirds pounded out 14 hits en route to pulling out a 5-4 win over Mineral Point Friday.

Darlington senior Cole McDonald and Hayden Hardyman each went 3-for-4 to lead the Redbirds. Hardyman had a walk-off single in the seventh to give the Redbirds the win.

Darlington senior Jason Singer pitched six innings and gave up three earned runs on five hits. He struck out four and walked two.



Potosi 7, Black Hawk 3

Potosi 14, Black Hawk 2

SOUTH WAYNE - Potosi swept a doubleheader from Black Hawk Friday.

Black Hawk carried a 1-0 lead into the fourth inning. However, the Chieftains scored four runs in the third and three in the fourth for a comeback 7-3 win.

Black Hawk's Taylor Rupnow and sophomore Reesan Ruch were each 2-for-4 to lead the Warriors' 11-hit attack.

Rupnow pitched a complete seven innings and gave up seven earned runs on 10 hits. He struck out five and walked eight.

Potosi beat the Warriors 14-2 in the second game. Rupnow went 2-for-3 to lead the Warriors.

Ruch pitched four innings and gave up 11 earned runs on 14 hits. He struck out one and walked four.



Shulls.-Benton 6, Argyle 5

ARGYLE - The Argyle baseball team led a late lead slip away in a 3-2 loss to Shullsburg-Benton Friday in the second game of a doubleheader.

Argyle led 2-1 going into the sixth inning. Shullsburg-Benton scored two runs in the sixth to win it.

Argyle senior Kyle Olson went 3-for-4 in the first game and senior Colton Ploessl was 2-for-4.

Olson pitched six innings and gave up two earned runs on eight hits. He struck out eight and didn't issue a walk.

In the first game of the twinbill, the Miner-Zephyrs beast the Orioles 6-5.

Argyle's Cam Treuthardt went 2-for-3 with a double. Argyle's Brock Bruehlman had two RBI.

Ploessl pitched a complete game and gave up six runs (two earned runs) on 10 hits. He struck out seven and walked two.



Highland 6, Albany 0

Highland 2, Albany 0

ALBANY - Highland tossed two shutouts to sweep a doubleheader from Albany Friday.

Albany had just three hits in the first game. The Comets committed three errors.

Albany sophomore Brock Gilkes pitched a complete game and gave up six runs (four earned runs) on nine hits. He struck out four and walked three.

Albany was limited to just two hits in the second game. Albany senior Mitchell Trow pitched a complete game. He gave up two earned runs on eight hits. Trow struck out two and walked one.



Jefferson 15, Brodhead-Juda 1

JEFFERSON - The Eagles erupted for 10 runs in the first inning and rolled to a 15-1 win over Brodhead-Juda Friday.

Brodhead-Juda's Brennan Bescup hit a double. The Cardinals had just three hits and committed six errors.

Alex Nipple pitched 2/3 of an inning and gave up 10 runs on four hits. Bescup pitched 1 2/3 innings and gave up three earned runs. He struck out one and walked four. Sophomore teammate Matt Schmidt also pitched 1 2/3 innings and gave up two earned runs on three hits. He struck out one and walked one.



Evansville 15, New Glarus 1

NEW GLARUS - The Glarner Knights committed five errors and Evansville cruised to a 15-1 win over New Glarus.

Evansville's Dayton Zettelmeier and Ben Haegele each went 2-for-3 with a double and three RBI.

New Glarus (0-13, 0-7 Capitol South) was led by junior Gavin Binger who went 2-for-3.

The Blue Devils had a five-run first inning and a six-run second to take an 11-0 lead. Evansville's Colby Nevel went 2-for-3 with a triple and Zach Wille and Chase Katzenmeyer each were 2-for-3 with two RBI.
