Panthers stymie Eagles

JUDA - Senior Sara Jordan went 3-for-4 with three RBI to lead the Juda-Albany softball team to a 10-0 win over Barneveld in six innings on Monday.

With the win, Juda-Albany (21-2, 13-1 Six Rivers East) clinched the outright conference championship for the third straight year.

"It's a tough thing to do," Juda-Albany coach Bill Davis said. "Winning a conference championship is something for the girls to be proud of. You never know when you will win another one."

Juda-Albany junior Nicki Becker tossed a complete game five-hit shutout. She struck out 10 and walked none.

"She (Becker) was throwing very well and hitting her spots," Davis said. "She can control the game."

Jordan singled in the first inning. Senior Sayde McDermott followed with a single. Becker helped her own cause by coming through with an RBI single to give the Panthers a 1-0 lead.

The Panthers broke the game open with a five-run fourth. Junior Haley Freitag walked to start the big inning. Sammi Detra singled and senior Riley Adkins reached on a fielder's choice. Senior Alexis Goecks delivered a two-run single to give the Panthers a 3-0 lead. Senior Chelsea Burkhalter followed with an RBI single. Jordan then lined an RBI single to give the Panthers a 5-0 lead. Jordan later scored on an error to extend the Panthers' lead to 6-0.

Goecks had a team-high four RBI. Becker went 2-for-4.

Juda-Albany will play at Highland on Thursday.



Darlington 5, Riverdale 1

RIVERDALE - Senior Raven Reuter went 2-for-4 to lead the Redbirds to a win over Riverdale.

Darlington (7-9, 4-9 SWAL) had eight hits and scored all five of its runs in the fourth inning.

Darlington junior Chelsie Golackson had a triple.

Darlington senior Tayah Paulson tossed a complete game four-hit shutout. Paulson struck out five, walked none and hit one.

The Redbirds will play at Southwestern on Thursday.
