DEFOREST - The Monroe boys soccer team couldn't finish on shots in the second half and lost a hard-fought non-conference game 2-0 to DeForest Tuesday.

DeForest got goals from Reid Falbo and Carter Schultz to knock off the Cheesemakers. The Norskies out-shot the Cheesemakers 16-12.

"It was an even match as far as possessions and shots," Monroe coach Tony Vasquez said. "We spent most of the second half at their end. We just couldn't finish. They all fought hard. No one gave up."

Monroe senior goalkeeper Austin Murphy had 14 saves. With the loss, Monroe drops to 1-2.

Monroe hosts Platteville at 5 p.m. Friday at Honey Creek Park and then plays at Dodgeville Saturday. Vasquez still wants to see the Cheesemakers make improvements before they get into the conference portion of the schedule.

"We want them to keep playing confident and understanding we need to play our kind of soccer," Vasquez said. "We know the style we have to play to be successful. It's playing physical and not playing one-on-one. It's sharing the ball."
