EDGERTON - The Monroe volleyball team's season came to an end with a WIAA Division 2 regional semifinal loss to Edgerton Thursday 25-7, 25-12, 25-19.

Monroe sophomore Taylor Barrett and senior Courtney Hawkinson led the Cheesemakers with six kills each.

Monroe's Heather Barta had 15 assists and senior Kirstie Hinojosa had a match-high 12 digs.

Edgerton's Tessa Snell racked up 21 kills while Tina Eastman had 26 assists for top-seeded Crimson Tide.

Monroe reached the match after going 0-12 on the year in conference play, but then ousted Dodgeville in straight sets Tuesday night at home in the playoff opener.

The Cheesemakers were hoping to ride the momentum to a possible major upset, but now instead will look to building the program under Danya Ward, who just finished her first year at the helm.

BURLINGTON - Black Hawk was no match for No. 1 seed Burlington Catholic Central losing the WIAA Division 4 regional semifinal 25-9, 25-10, 25-17.

Catholic Central has won three of the last five Division 4 state championships and was the runner-up last season.
