MOUNT HOREB - The Monroe girls track team won five events at the Mount Horeb quadrangular Thursday.
Monroe junior Cammi Ganshert won the 200-meter dash (25.3 seconds) and the 400 (1:02.1). Sophomore teammate Cassi Gersbach finished first in the long jump with a jump of 15 feet, 5 ½ inches and second in the 100 hurdles (16.7).
Sophomore Bri Seagreaves won the triple jump with a jump of 30-3 ½. The Cheesemakers' 1,600 relay team of senior Rachel Meier, junior Elise Smith, freshman Jaclyn Hayes and Gersbach took first with a time of 4:42.8.
"It was good to see the boys and girls be competitive with some of the top schools in the conference, said Scott Mosher, Monroe boys track coach. There were a lot of good performances, and kids were excited to run in some decent weather."
Monroe freshman Megan Benzschawel finished second in the 100 (13.6). Senior Sydney Mathiason finished second in the high jump (4-8), and senior Payton Sigafus placed second in the pole vault (7-6).
The Monroe boys track team dominated a couple of races. The Cheesemakers swept the top three spots in the 400 and 800. Monroe senior Jason Koller won the 400 (52.6). Senior teammate Jonah Tostrud finished first in the 800 (2:08.6) and took second in the 400 (52.7). Senior Sam Kind took third in the 400 (54.2).
"Jason Koller and Jonah Tostrud went 1-2 in the 400 with some very fast times for this time of the year," Mosher said. "Sam Kind ran in his first ever 400 and ran an impressive time."
Koller took second in the 800 (2:09.7) and sophomore Dylan Fahrney finished third (2:13.6). Senior Drake Ingold won the 3,200 (10:14.9), and junior Kyle Legler was second (10:36.8).
Senior Brayden Zettle took second in the 200 (22.7), and junior Jordan Montgomery placed third (22.9). Anthony Neuenschwander took second in the pole vault (9-6), and senior Tyson Welsch was second in the shot put (40-11).
