MONROE - The Monroe High School girls soccer team opened up the Badger South Conference portion of its season with a bang Thursday, rolling to a 4-1 win over Fort Atkinson at Honey Creek Park.

"The scoresheet reflected the energy, effort and teamwork they put in tonight," Monroe coach Kyle Kasten said. "I'm very happy with the way they played an important conference match."

Junior Morgan Seffrood put the Cheesemakers (4-1-1) on the board, scoring on an assist from junior Olivia Werth at 19 minutes, 34 seconds. Junior Brynn Ritschard scored on a pass from sophomore Emily Benzschawel at 44:16 to give the Cheesemakers a 2-0 lead at the half.

Werth scored on an assist from Ritschard at 61:43 to give the Cheesemakers a commanding 3-0 lead. Benzschawel tacked on another goal to give Monroe a 4-0 lead before the Blackhawks scored in the final 2 minutes.

Kasten liked the fact that four players scored goals.

"We definitely preach that - it's definitely 11 players at one time," Kasten said. "At any given moment any player can score. It really plays into the principles I've been trying to teach them of playing team soccer."
