MONROE - The Monroe boys soccer team was in the driver's seat Tuesday, but the Cheesemakers couldn't stay there.

Platteville scored two second-half goals and handed the Cheesemakers a 2-1 loss.

The Cheesemakers (1-2) dominated the first half and limited the Hillmen to two shots on goal. Despite owning the first half, the game was scoreless.

"We missed a lot of opportunities," Monroe coach Tony Stamm said.

Monroe junior Andrew Aurit scored an unassisted goal at 50 minutes, 48 seconds to give the Cheesemakers a 1-0 lead.

"I had some concerns about my defense," Stamm said. "They were getting too relaxed. It wasn't just the defense. The whole team got relaxed after that goal."

Platteville's Adam Stanton scored a game-tying goal at 58:19. The shot ricocheted off a Cheesemaker defender and took an unfortunate bad hop.

Jordan Frederick scored the go-ahead goal for the Hillmen at 63:36.

"We outplayed them," Stamm said.

The Cheesemakers will try to get back to .500 when they play at Baraboo on Thursday night.

Monroe's junior varsity squad improved to 2-0-1 with a 2-0 win over Platteville.

Ian Geyer scored early in the second half off a pass from Matt Bodeau. Cody Stamm scored the second goal.

The defense allowed the Hillmen one shot.
