EDGERTON - The Monroe wrestling team lost their Thursday night meet against Edgerton, 42-29.

Cheesemakers coach Tom Witt said he was pleased with some of his team's performances, although he would have liked to have seen others finish strong.

"We lost some matches that we shouldn't have tonight," said Witt. "In many instances, we had the lead for the most part, but we were unable to close and little mishaps ended up being the differences in some of the matches."

Hayden Arneson pinned his opponent in the 170 pound class, in a match that Witt thought was a solid performance for the Monroe freshman.

"His (Arneson's) was a great match. He took some great shots and was able to get his guy in an arm-bar," Witt said. "He was technically sound throughout the match and I was very pleased with his performance for us tonight."

Cole Murray also picked up a victory for Monroe, pinning his opponent in 3:41 in the 126 pound weight class. In similar fashion, McKenzy Foley also pinned his opponent at 145 pounds.

Traiten Gorr (182), Austin Minder (195), and Jacob Ritschards (106) all collected points for the Cheesemakers by picking up decisions over their opponents.

Brodhead/Juda 48, Sugar River 32

BELLEVILLE - The Brodhead/Juda co-op wrestling team continued their strong season by picking up a 48-32 victory in a closely fought meet against the Sugar River Raiders.

Despite some instances in which both teams were unable to wrestle their team's members, Cardinals coach Tim Colden was pleased with the meet's turnout.

"We had to juggle some things in order to give us the best matchup for our kids," Colden said. "We were able to move some people around, and in the end, that was the difference of the meet."

In the 182 pound match-up, Brodhead/Juda's Gavin Baade was able to get the pin over Sugar River's Jacob Larson, despite a strong start to the match by Larson.

"He (Baade) had a nice match against a tough opponent," said Colden. "Gavin got caught early in the first period, but he was able to bounce back and pin him (Larson) later in the match."

Coty Knudtson picked up a win for Brodhead/Juda in the 126 pound class, while Justin Sangermano (138) and Brady Colden (170), and Logan Maurer (285) also collected pins for the Cardinals in their respective classes.

For the Raiders, Young-Chul Vetterli won by technical fall in the 160 pound match, while Anthony Chiarello picked up an 8-6 decision over his opponent at 145 pounds. Brett Grinder pinned his opponent in the 152 pound class.
