MONROE - On Saturday, the Mite A squad squared off with the Stoughton A squad at SLICE. The game was scoreless after the first period, but Monroe eventually lost to Stoughton 3-0.
Monroe failed to light up the scoreboard to help goalie Payton Stauffacher get a win. He had 17 saves in the contest.
On Sunday, the Monroe Mite A team traveled to Dubuque, Iowa to challenge the Stars A team in a rematch to avenge their 5-2 loss earlier in the season. Just 3 minutes into the first period Emma Ness knocked a puck lose and Cade Janecke bolted down the ice to put Monroe up 1-0. Monroe struck again two minutes later as Travis Edmunds connected on a pass to Joe Wyss, who put the Avalanche up 2-0. Dubuque put in a goal of their own, and at the end of the first period Monroe was up 2-1.
In the second period, with 5 seconds left, Emma Ness made a great pass to Cade Janecke, who put it in with 2 seconds on the clock to make the score 3-1. Dubuque came back in the third and had two goals of its own to tie the game at 3 with 48 seconds to play. Then with 15 seconds remaining in the game Joe Wyss received a pass from Cade Janecke, and scored to dash Dubuque's hopes of a tie and sealed the victory for the Avalanche in dramatic fashion 4-3.
Stauffacher had 16 saves in the game.

MONROE - On Saturday, the Avalanche Mite B team played at home against the Stoughton Mite B team. Stoughton B took and early first period lead 2-0.
Then in the second period, Avalanche center Riley Jones had a breakaway goal to put Monroe on the board. Stoughton fought back with another score in the second period, leading 3-1. Then in the third period, Haley Knauf knocked the puck loose and again Jones picked up the loose puck and raced down the ice for another Avalanche score. Monroe ended up losing the game 3-2. Payton Stauffacher had 28 saves in the effort.
On Sunday, the Mite B team traveled to Dubuque to play the Dubuque B squad. Monroe was winning the game 2-0, but ended up losing a heartbreaker in the last 3 minutes of the game 4-3. Stauffacher had two goals and an assist, Anika Einbeck had a goal, and Tessa Janecke had three assists in the effort. Heath Bear had 13 saves.
