SOUTH WAYNE - Black Hawk senior Brody Milz was selected to the National Football Foundation's Wisconsin Chapter Scholar-Athlete team for 2017-18.

Milz was named first-team Wisconsin Football Coaches Association All-State at linebacker and honorable mention all-state at running back in helping lead Black Hawk to a WIAA Division 7 state runner-up finish. He also was named the Six Rivers Conference Offensive and Defensive Player of the Year. He was first-team all-conference at running back and linebacker.

Milz has rushed for 1,568 yards, ran for 27 touchdowns and averaged 120.6 yards per game and 9.6 yards per carry. On defense, Milz is the team's leading tackler at linebacker with 143 tackles, 6.5 sacks and 15 tackles for loss.

Milz became the first running back to eclipse 100 rushing yards against Bangor's defense in the state championship game, rushing for 117 yards on 15 carries and a touchdown. He tied a state record with 20 tackles in the title game.

Milz was one of 11 Wisconsin senior football players selected for this team, which is based on outstanding football achievement while maintaining a high level of academic scholarship. The 11 senior athletes attended a banquet Friday at Steenbock's on Orchard on the University of Wisconsin-Madison campus, hosted by the family of the late George Chryst. The participants were invited to attend the closed-session practice for the Wisconsin Badger football team at the McClain Center on Friday.

The nominees were to be presented their awards at halftime of the Badger spring football game, but the game was cancelled due to inclement weather.

Milz is the 11th Black Hawk football player nominated for this award and the first to be selected for the team. Milz signed a letter of intent in February of this year to play football at UW-Oshkosh in the fall.
