MONROE — The WIAA released the softball playoff brackets May 12. Games begin May 16.

In Division 2, the fourth-ranked Monroe Cheesemakers (16-2) were given a No. 3 seed in their subsectional. Third-ranked Whitnall (19-4) was named the No. 1 seed, while ninth-ranked Jefferson (18-3) was blessed with the No. 2 seed, ahead of fourth-seeded but top-ranked Waukesha Catholic Memorial (15-4).

Monroe received a first-round bye and will play Beloit Turner (16-6) in the second round May 21 at home. A regional championship would take place May 23 either at Jefferson or at home against East Troy (18-4) or Big Foot (2-19).

In the May 28 sectional semifinal, Monroe would face either Whitnall, Catholic Memorial, fifth-seeded Whitewater (14-6), or either Edgerton (3-16) or Delavan-Darien (2-13).

Top seeds favored to play in the May 30 sectional final include No. 1-seeded Portage, No. 2 Edgewood and No. 3 McFarland (12-10).

Division 3

Brodhead was given an eight-seed and will host Palmyra-Eagle in Round One May 16.

If the Cardinals win, they would play at top-ranked Poynette May 21.

Division 4

New Glarus was given the 10th seed and travels to Boscobel for a first-round game May 16. A win would advance the Glarner Knights to a regional semifinal game at second-seeded Wisconsin Heights.

Darlington is seeded No. 9 and will travel to Benton-Shullsburg May 16. The winner will face Mineral Point, the ninth-ranked team in Division 4 in the regional semifinal May 21.

Juda-Albany scored a No. 4 seed and hosts Lancaster in the second round. With a win, the Panthers would advance to the regional championship against either Mineral Point, Darlington or Benton-Shullsburg.

Division 5

Ninth-seeded Pecatonica travels to Barneveld May 16, with the winner taking on the state’s top-ranked team, unbeaten Belmont, in Round 2.

Black Hawk scored the No. 5 seed and will play Potosi in the regional semifinal May 21 at Potosi. A win would advance the Warriors to a likely meeting with Belmont in the regional final.

Monticello is the No. 10 seed in their subsectional and travel to Southwestern May 16 for a first-round game. An upset win for the Ponies would mean a May 21 meeting at Iowa-Grant, a team receiving votes in the state rankings.

Argyle is the No. 3 seed in the subsectional and host River Ridge in the second round. A likely regional final against Iowa-Grant looms for the winner.
