Pecatonica-Argyle, Brodhead-Juda notch first wins of 2019

CUBA CITY — Black Hawk-Warren improved to 2-0 this season with a 42-7 thumping of Cuba City Aug. 30.

Cayden Milz had 191 yards rushing and a touchdown for the Warriors on just seven carries. Cody Blosch and Jaylen Rufenacht each had seven carries, with Rufenacht gaining 83 yards and two scores and Blosch 56 with a touchdown. Lucas Milz added four carries for 34 yards and a touchdown.

Black Hawk-Warren took a 28-0 lead at the end of the first quarter and led 34-0 at halftime. Any thoughts of a comeback by Cuba City were thwarted in the third quarter when the Warriors scored a touchdown and added a 2-point conversion for a 42-0 lead and a running clock via mercy rule.

Ethan Williams was 2 for 3 passing for the Warriors, with Ryan Molitor catching a 29-yard pass. Rufenacht and Andrew Schlichenmeyer each had interceptions for Black Hawk-Warren, which host Potosi-Cassville in South Wayne in Week 3.


Darlington 27, Lake Country Lutheran 26, OT

HARTFORD — The Redbirds made a statement on the season in Week 2, snagging a 1-point win over Lake Country Lutheran in overtime. Lake Country Lutheran came into the game ranked second in the state in Division 5 in the first Wisconsin Football Coaches Association rankings of the season, and tied for third in the Associated Press Medium Division. Darlington, meanwhile, was ranked eighth in the Division 6 Coaches Poll.

Darlington took a 7-3 lead in the first quarter when Easton Evenstad burst free for a 65-yard touchdown. Lake Country Lutheran re-took the lead with a 6-yard TD pass with 7:07 left in the second quarter, but the Redbirds countered with another Evenstad TD rush, this time from 42-yards out. Evenstad finished with 122 yards rushing on just five carries.

Darlington led 13-10 at halftime and made it 20-10 thanks to a Cayden Rankin 4-yard run with 2:58 left in the third quarter. Just 52-seconds later, Lutheran added another TD of its own with a 57-yard run by Zander Mueller. Mueller finished with 125 yards and two scores on 12 carries.

Lake Country Lutheran added a 23-yard field goal with 2:12 left to send the game into overtime. Mueller scored for Lutheran in the overtime, but the home team was unable to convert the point after. Meanwhile, Rankin scored for the Redbirds in the overtime frame and Cole Crist knocked home the extra point that was the deciding factor in the win.

Darlington passed just four times in the game, completing three passes to Carter Lancaster for 55 yards. The Redbirds gained 209 yards on the ground. Defensively, Darlington allowed 85 yards through the air and 232 on the ground.

Pecatonica-Argyle 34, Iowa-Grant 6

BLANCHARDVILLE — Clay Ritschard had three touchdowns and the Vikings rolled over Iowa-Grant in Week 2.

Ritschard scored on runs of 5-, 7-, and 3-yards as Pecatonica-Argyle built a 22-0 lead. Griffin Gordon made it 28-0 with a 5-yard run of his own in the third quarter. 

Iowa-Grant’s lone score came on the ensuing kickoff after Gordon’s score, with Ethan Kuhls dodging defenders for 90 yards. Zander Brunker capped the scoring with a 5-yard touchdown rush in the fourth quarter.

The Vikings gained 329 yards on the ground on 62 carries. Ritschard gained 163 yards on 24 carries. Griffin had 50 yards on seven touches.


Lake Mills 55, New Glarus-Monticello 21

LAKE MILLS — A monster third quarter was all that the L-Cats needed to pull away from the Glarner Knights in Week 3. Lake Mills, which led 19-14 at halftime, put 36 points on the board in the third period.

Knights QB Darris Schuett finished 13 of 27 passing for 172 yards, two touchdowns and three interceptions. Mason Martinson was 1 for 2 for four yards. On the ground, Connor Siegenthaler led the way with 68 yards and a touchdown on 18 carries, while Schuett had 35 yards on six rushes. Siegenthaler also had 44 yards receiving on four catches. Nathan Streiff hauled in seven receptions for 105 yards and two scores. Defensively, Streiff had 15 tackles, Robert Chenoweth forced a fumble and Holden Latsch intercepted a pass.

Belleville 32, Parkview-Albany 14

ORFORDVILLE — Jjay Wenger ran for 81 yards and threw for another 130 yards and two touchdowns as the Wildcats knocked off the Vikings in Week 2. Belleville gained 249 yard on the ground, with Anthony Nolden and Ogden York each rushing for scores for Belleville.

The Wildcats led 7-0 after the first quarter, 21-0 at halftime and 24-0 after the third quarter.


Brodhead-Juda 28, Clinton 0

CLINTON — Four Cardinals scored touchdowns in Week 2.

In the second quarter, Brodhead-Juda got on the board on a touchdown pass from Cade Walker to Conner Green.

Eyan Anderson and Dalton Naramore each had touchdown runs in the third quarter, and Braden Cook added a score in the fourth.
