STOUGHTON — After losing to Monroe on their home ice in their own tournament, the Beloit Memorial Knights sought revenge in a 5-0 win on Saturday, Dec. 31.
Payton Whalen led Beloit with two goals for two points, followed by Jayden Piccione and Jaxon Walenga who had a goal and assist each for two points, as well.
The Knights outshot the Cheesemakers 45-35, as Jameson Flanagan picked up the win in net. For Monroe, Kyle Theorin made 40 saves on 45 shots for an .889 save percentage.
In the team’s first game of the Stoughton tournament, Beloit Memorial defeated Milton 7-4.
The Knights took a 2-0 lead in the first with power-play goals from Cy Potter and Cole Rowald. The second period was a wash, as the two teams exchanged goals. Colter Thom had both second-period goals for the Red Hawks. In the third, Beloit outscored Milton 3-2 for the win.
Sam Rowald led the Knight offense with three points from one goal and two assists. Flanagan stopped 35 of the 39 shots he saw for a .897 save percentage.
Monroe finished the tournament 1-2, losing to Sheboygan and winning against Stoughton.
In their 6-3 loss to the Red Raiders, the Cheesemakers let a 2-0 slip away. Easton Dreyfus and Cash Anderson scored first, but Sheboygan responded with six straight goals. Eric Zimmerman and Jacob Crispin had two goals each. Brody Goode scored on a power play in the third period, but by then it was too late.
Easton Dreyfus and Seth Brandt led the Cheesemakers with two points each. Dreyfus tallied one goal and one assist, while Brandt had two assists. Xander Obert stopped 45 of the 51 shots on goal he faced for a .882 save percentage.
Against Stoughton, Monroe jumped out to a 5-0 lead before letting up a goal. Wyatt Janecke ended the first period and began the second period with goals, while Brandt recorded a hat trick.
Dreyfus and Brandt led once again with five and four points, respectively. Collectively, Monroe had 53 shots on goal. Theorin got the win, recording 19 saves.
