DARLINGTON — The girls golf team hosted the Ringen Invite on Friday, Aug. 18, finishing fourth of seven teams. Lancaster won the meet with a team score of 364 and two individuals in the top ten.

Senior Josie Meister led the Redbirds with her score of 88, which was good enough for third overall. She tallied five pars and nine bogeys. Sophie Wiegel followed with a 97, which tied Lancaster’s Kate McWilliams for tenth place overall. However, McWilliams took the spot outright with the tiebreaker, which was the best score on Hole 18. McWilliams had a 5 and Wiegel a 6.

Alyza Johnson, Erica Meylor and Sydney Weber rounded out the Redbird squad with scores of 110, 113 and 114, respectively.

The annual invite honors former coach Gary Ringen, who began the boys golf program and coached numerous years for both boys’ and girls’ programs. He passed away in 2014. His wife, Jill, is currently an assistant coach for the girls’ team.
