Ponies unbeaten; Black Hawk sweeps Juda

BLANCHARDVILLE — The Ponies, ranked second in the state in Division 4 by the Wisconsin Volleyball Coaches Association, remain unbeaten as the season continues on. Athens is No. 1 in D4.

On Sept. 1, Monticello defeated Pecatonica 25-21, 26-24, 25-15.

“We were down the whole second match and battled back from 18-24 with Dalana Trumpy serving,” said Monticello coach Rebecca Gustafson.

Ellie Gustafson finished with 24 kills and 13 digs, while Kelsy Grant tallied 24 assists and three aces. Trumpy also had three aces.

Two days later, Monticello won the Richland Center Tournament. They knocked off Wisconsin Dells 25-12, 25-11, then Platteville 25-17, 25-19. In the semifinals, the Ponies trumped Lodi 25-21, 25-11, then edged 10th-ranked Hillsboro in the championship 25-19, 20-25, 15-8.

On Sept. 6, Monticello swept Barneveld 25-15, 25-11, 25-20. 

Turner 3, Monroe 0

BELOIT — The Cheesemakers were swept Sept. 1 by the Trojans in a nonconference match, 25-12, 25-9, 25-20.

Turner finished the night with 14 aces to Monroe’s two, while the Cheesemakers made 52 errors to Turner’s 25.

Olivia Feller led Monroe with eight digs and an ace. Addison Bartholf dished out 13 assists, Sophie Golembiewski blocked two shots and Courtney Hartwig had a team-high five kills.

Black Hawk 3, Juda 0

JUDA — The Warriors dominated the Panthers on Sept. 6, winning in straight sets 25-16, 25-13, 25-20.

Mallorie Peterson had five aces for Black Hawk, with teammate Ellie Edler dishing out 16 assists. The Warriors had 28 kills combined on the night.

For Juda, Ciarrah Davis finishing the night with 10 digs.

Waterloo 3, New Glarus 0

NEW GLARUS — The Pirates knocked off the host Glarner Knights in straight sets Sept. 6, winning 25-18, 25-22, 25-15.

Marshall 3, Belleville 2

BELLEVILLE — The Cardinals won a key back-and-forth Capitol South battle on Sept. 6, 27-25, 23-25, 23-25, 25-22, 15-11.

Mikayla Caskey tallied 13 kills and 25 digs for Belleville, while teammate Kailey Prochaska had seven aces and Maddi DeSmet finished with four blocks. Addy Edge dished out 32 assists.
