Pecatonica sitting pretty in Six Rivers

BLANCHARDVILLE — Following a three-set victory over Black Hawk on Tuesday, Sept. 5, Pecatonica improves to 5-7 overall and 3-0 in the conference. The Vikings defeated the Warriors 25-20, 25-16 and 25-13.

“As a coach, I am super proud how these girls keep showing up for themselves and for each other,” Pecatonica head coach Liz McGowan said. “Our sophomore floor captain, Loretta Tisch, has led our team vocally from the back row, reading the floor and getting our setter great passes to work with. She also does a great job connecting in the front row.”

Loretta Tisch contributed five aces and a team-best nine digs. Her sister, Anna Tisch, led the team in kills (six) and assists (13). Diana Hendrickson also recorded six kills, while Maddie Hirsch and Madelyn Clearly served up six aces each.

With the win, Pecatonica is tied with Barneveld at the top of the conference. The pair met up Thursday, Sept. 7 following the Monroe Times deadline. Results of that match will appear in the Wednesday, Sept. 13 edition of the paper.


BARNEVELD 3, ALBANY 1

ALBANY — The Comets found fight, avoiding a three-set sweep, but ultimately fell to the Eagles 3-1 on Tuesday, Sept. 5. Barneveld, who is tied at the top of the conference with Pecatonica, bested Albany 26-24, 25-18, 22-25 and 25-15.

Senior Alana Durtschi paced Albany in three statistical categories: kills (11), blocks (4) and digs (19). Anna Ellinger, who had 10 kills, recorded a team-best two aces. Ellie Modaff and Myah Johnson distributed the offense with 16 and eight assists, respectively, while Rachel Wildt tallied 19 digs. 


MONTICELLO 3, JUDA 0

MONTICELLO — Following a five-set loss to Argyle last week, Monticello rebounded for a three-set sweep of Juda on Tuesday, Sept. 5. The Ponies cruised to 25-11, 25-8 and 25-14 victories.

“The Ponies needed this win to get their confidence up,” Monticello head coach Alison Zimmerman said. “It was good for them.”

 Jaden Zuber tallied five aces at the line. Dalana Trumpy recorded 10 kills, while Jillian Ryan contributed another four.


EVANSVILLE 3, MONROE 0

MONROE — The Cheesemakers are still finding their footing in the Rock Valley, suffering another three-set loss to Evansville on Tuesday, Sept. 5. The Blue Devils won by scores of 25-13, 25-18 and 25-23.

Courtney Hartwig and Sophie Golembiewski led the offense with five kills each. At the service line, Addison Bartholf tallied three aces.
