BEAVER DAM — The Cheesemakers were swept by the Golden Beavers March 23, 6-25, 15-25, 20-25.
“Beaver Dam was a rough match,” Monroe coach Heidi Witt said. “We were very flat coming out and frankly couldn’t do anything right.
“We can’t come out and play like that and be satisfied. As coaches, we can try and light a fire under them, but the bottom line is you create your own energy — you have to be accountable for your own actions and attitude when you get on the court.”
Witt said she mixed up the lineup in the second set “so everyone could play, and that was fun to watch them have some success.”
In the third set, the Cheesemakers played like a completely different team, hanging with the Golden Eagles.
Katie Hayes had 10 assists and 2 blocks for Monroe. Taylor Jacobson led the team with 7 kills, while Taylor Broge had 5. Elly Wild added 2 blocks, Payton Johnson had an ace, and Hayes and Alyse Maurer each finished with 5 digs.
Leila Ashley had 21 assist and 6 aces for Beaver Dam, with teammate Haley Allen adding 13 kills.
The Cheesemakers were to host Monona Grove March 25 and Stoughton March 26.
