BRODHEAD — Monroe dominated a triangular Jan. 9 against Rock Valley foes Brodhead-Juda and Clinton, and then saw more success two days later at the Sauk Prairie Eagle Invite, with eight Cheesemakers placing in the meet.
At the triangular, Monroe defeated host Brodhead-Juda 60-24, then walloped Clinton 64-18. The Cardinals lost their dual against Clinton 54-18.
The Cheesemakers pinned nine Cardinals during the all-Green County portion of the dual. Steven Glover (126 pounds), Weston Huntsman (132), Carson Menehan (138), Connor Eckdhal (150), Braedyn Nally (157), Joe Rufenacht (165), Patrick Harms (190) and Joah Wellman (215) all won via pinfall for Monroe, which also had two forfeit wins.
Brodhead-Juda’s Jameson Wallin (144), Chase Wilhite 175) and Kavion Cupps (285) scored pinfall victories of their own.
In Monroe’s blowout of Clinton, the Cheesemakers scored seven pinfall victories and a major decision. Noah Schuh (120), Huntsman (132), Menehan (138), Eckdhal (150), Harms (190), Wellman (215) and Connor Swindle (285) pinned their opponents. Nally won by an 11-3 major decision. Monroe received two wins via forfeit.
For the Cardinals against Clinton, Tyler Coleman (285) scored a decision victory, 8-6, while teammate Thomas Lohmar (106) defeated his opponent 7-3. Todd Hall (132) had a pinned win.
Sauk Prairie Invite
Eight Monroe wrestlers placed at the 22-team Sauk Prairie Eagle Invitational held Jan. 10.
Monroe’s highest placewinners included Owen Voegeli (113), who took second, while Carson Menehan (132) was third.
Pecatonica-Argyle also competed at the invite, finishing 15th as a team.
Defending 106-pound Division 3 state champion Aidan Gruenenfelder (120) improved to 28-0 on the season after bumping up two weight classes. The senior went 4-0 on the day.
Teammate Lukas Orloff (126) also won four matches on the day to bring home the championship. Orloff, who was third at state at 113-pounds last year as a sophomore, is 28-1 this season after moving up two weight classes himself.
