Monroe 0-5 at own tourney; Monticello starts 5-0

MONROE — The Cheesemakers went 0-5 at their own tournament on Aug. 26.

Darlington opened the first match of the season by scoring 14 straight points on Monroe, then eventually winning the match 25-10, 25-19.

Mount Horeb then grated the Cheese 25-13, 25-10. Wisconsin Heights were victorious 25-17, 25-18. Watertown Luther Prep allowed Monroe to score just 11 points in both sets, while New Glarus dominated the Cheesemakers, allowing just 11 points total between the two sets: 25-3, 25-8.

Mount Horeb defeated Luther Prep and New Glarus in three sets each, and swept Darlington and Wisconsin Heights to win the tournament.

Darlington swept Wisconsin Heights, but lost to Luther Prep and New Glarus.


Monticello wins own tournament

MONTICELLO — The host Ponies won the championship over Six Rivers East rival Pecatonica at the annual Monticello varsity volleyball tournament on Aug. 26. The Ponies went unbeaten on the day, winning their pool and then taking down Barneveld and Pecatonica in bracket play 2-1 each.

In pool play, Monticello defeated Belmont 2-1, Albany 2-0 and Marshall 2-0.

Pecatonica, Barneveld and Black Hawk all went 2-1 in the other pool, with Juda finishing 0-3.

On Aug. 25, Pecatonica was slept by Mount Horeb in a nonconference match, 3-0.
