MNG drowns Goslings

WATERTOWN — The Monroe-New Glarus swim team scored a convincing victory Sept. 17, knocking off the Goslings on the road 121-47. The Cheesemakers won 9 of the 11 events.

“Monroe-New Glarus had an awesome meet against Watertown,” coach Kendra Kalvin said. “The team is working well together, and spirits are high as we head towards the halfway point of the season.”

Mekenzie Hammer, Karley Michels, Alyssa Roelli and Francesca Schiro teamed up to win the 200-yard medley relay in the first varsity race of the night, finishing with a time of 1:57.66, nearly 10 seconds ahead of Watertown.

Morgan Erstad won the 200-freestyle (2:01.83) by 21 seconds, and the 500-free (5:27.18) by 39 seconds.

“We saw excellent swims across the board, but specifically from Morgan Erstad in the 200- and 500-free as well as Libby Fuller in the 100-fly and 500-free,” Kalvin said.

Monroe-New Glarus swept the top three spots in the 200-Individual Medley, with Hammer (2:15.61) taking first place, Anna Newcomer (2:30.50) second and Karley Michels (2:37.35) squeaking out third by 3/10ths of a second. The Cheesemakers also swept the first three spots in the 100-breaststroke, with Michels (1:12.53) taking first, Schiro (1:14.52) second and Else Schaefer (1:20.55) third.

Roelli won the 100-butterfly (1:05.10) and finished second (1:06.46) in the 100-back behind Hammer (1:01.77). 

MNG won the 400-free (3:56.32), with Hammer, Erstad, Schiro and Kendra Wenger teaming up for first. In the 200-free relay, MNG took first and second. Roelli, Wenger, Newcomer and Erstad won with a time of 1:50.81, and Laurel Houston, Peyton Yaun, Dee Delforge and Samantha Schiro were second (2:00.92).
