MONTICELLO — MNG made the most of its opportunities in a 13-4 Six Rivers East win over rival Black Hawk May 16, the second game of the day for each team. Monticello-New Glarus lost to Potosi-Cassville 6-4 earlier in the day, while Black Hawk was halted by Juda-Albany in five innings.
Dalana Trumpy scored three times and smacked a triple for MNG. Jaden Zuber also tripled, while Karlee and Sadie Wilkins each doubled. Tatum O’Bel pitched a solid five innings for the Ponies, allowing three runs (one earned). Kira Whisler tossed the final two frames for MNG.
Anna Haldiman took the loss for Black Hawk, with seven of the 13 runs unearned. She struck out seven batters. Ellie Edler tripled, and Tatum Baumgartner had two hits for the Warriors. Black Hawk committed eight errors.
Potosi-Cassville 6, Monticello-New Glarus 4
MONTICELLO — Dalana Trumpy reached base three times (single, double, walk) and scored twice, but the Ponies couldn’t snag a Six Rivers crossover victory in the first of two games May 16.
Jaden Zuber pitched all seven innings for MNG, allowing just three earned runs with six strikeouts. She also gave up just six hits and two walks, with two hit batters.
Barneveld 10, Monticello-New Glarus 0
BARNEVELD — The Eagles held the Ponies to just one hit in a six-inning shutout May 17.
Daelynn Rhoades struck out 11 and allowed just four baserunners as Barneveld capped an unbeaten season in the Six Rivers East to win the league title.
Izzy Leahy had two home runs for the Eagle, and Emma Gordon doubled. Karlee Wilkins had MNG’s lone base hit, a double.
Argyle 12, Black Hawk 1
ARGYLE — The Orioles 1-hit the Warriors in a Six Rivers East game May 17. It was the third loss in two days for Black Hawk, which also lost to Monticello-New Glarus and Juda-Albany.
Grace Ganshert struck out 12 of the 17 batters she faced, with the lone run coming unearned. Kiera Haldiman tripled in Ellie Edler for Black Hawk’s lone hit and run.
For Argyle, Megan Johnson was 2-for-4 with four RBIs and three runs scored. Ganshert had two hits, including a triple, walked and scored twice. Mya McNett had three stolen bases. Ava Wiegel and Maggie Godfrey doubled, and Breann Flannery had a triple.
Highland 6, Argyle 1
HIGHLAND — The Orioles dropped a conference crossover game with the Cardinals May 16.
Ganshert struck out 11 and allowed four hits and three earned runs in six innings. Argyle was out-hit 4-3, and the Orioles committed four errors on defense, with a 5-run fifth inning the back-breaker.
Juda-Albany 7, Pecatonica 1
JUDA — The Vikings committed six errors, which allowed for all seven Panther runs to be unearned in a game May 17.
Chloe Schraepfer took the loss for Pecatonica, striking out two while allowing just one walk and four hits in six innings. Avary Briggs dazzled for Juda-Albany, striking out six with three hits and two walks in a complete game effort. The lone run against her was also unearned.
Brianna Dahl had the lone extra base hit of the game.
Mount Horeb 2, Brodhead 1
MOUNT HOREB — The Cardinals lost a tight nonconference game to Mount Horeb May 17. The one-run loss came after Brodhead committed five errors in the field, which allowed for the second of the Vikings’ two runs in the third inning to stand as the game-winner.
McKenna Young struck out 11 and allowed four hits, a walk and a hit batter in 100 pitches for Brodhead. The Cardinals had just three hits and struck out 10 times at the dish. One of the three hits was a solo home run by Young in the top of the fourth.
Mineral Point 23, Darlington 1
DARLINGTON — The Pointers scored seven runs or more in three different innings in a throttling of the Redbirds May 16.
Darlington had six hits, but Mineral Pound had 25 — including seven extra base hits.
Three Redbirds pitched in the game, with 16 runs earned.
