WATERTOWN — After clinching the Badger South title two days before, Monroe used its regular-season finale doubleheader against Watertown as a tune-up for the WIAA playoffs.
The Goslings swept Monroe 6-3 and 9-5 May 16.
In the opener, sophomore backup pitcher Alyse Maurer toed the rubber, tossing six innings and allowing six runs (four earned) on six hits and three walks on 102 pitches. She struck out three and gave up a booming home run in Paige Boachi.
At the dish, Maurer was 2 for 4 with a double, while teammate Katie Hayes was 2 for 4 with a solo home run in the sixth, and Grace Tostrud was 1 for 4 with a two-run home run in the seventh.
In Game 2, Maurer gave up nine runs (eight earned) on six hits, including another Boachi homer, and four walks in 2.2 innings. Grace Tostrud tossed the final 4.1 innings, giving up just a hit while walking six and striking out three.
At the dish, Tostrud and Maurer were each 2 for 4, with Maurer scoring two runs. Hailey Betthauser, Sloane Ambrose and Lizzy Snider doubled for the Cheesemakers, who led 1-0 after the first inning but trailed 9-1 after the third.
Monroe was set to open the WIAA Division 2 playoffs at home May 21 against Beloit Turner.
