BARNEVELD — No. 2 Barneveld defended its Six Rivers East Conference title with a 9-3 win over league opponent No. 4 Juda-Albany in a WIAA Division 5 sectional semifinal game May 28. 

The Panthers earned a 2-1 revenge win over Belmont in the regional final and looked to knock off another rival. Myah Johnson’s two-run home run in the top of the fourth put Juda-Albany on the board first, but Barneveld responded with seven runs in the bottom of the frame.

Avary Briggs was charged with the loss, giving up four earned runs on nine hits in four innings of work. She struck out three and walked one. Emerson Briggs pitched two innings of relief, giving up two runs on four hits.

At the plate, Alana Durtschi led the charge with her 2-for-3 and one RBI performance. Emerson Briggs was also 2-for-3 with a double. Johnson drove in a team-best, two runs with her fourth-inning blast.

Juda-Albany ends its season with a 16-10 record, a regional title and runner-up finish in the Six Rivers East Conference.
