MONROE — The Cheesemakers registered a convincing 7-2 win over Beaver Dam on Feb. 6. Monroe scored the first three goals of the game in the opening period and took a 5-2 advantage into the second intermission before adding two more goals in the third period. Ten of Monroe’s 16 non-goalies recorded a point.

Cameron Newcomer had two goals for the Cheesemakers. Jace Daughenbaugh, Hans Brandt, Brady Spotts, Carter Nemergut and Blake Folgate all had a goal each for Monroe. Patrick Alt led the Cheesemakers with three assists. Spotts, Tysen Folgate and Brody Goode both had two assists. Daughenbaugh, Newcomer, Brandt and Owen Hicks all had one assist.

Brock Brandli scored the win in net for Monroe, stopping 17 of the 19 shots against him. Monroe hounded Beaver Dam’s Zach Schave with 40 shots on goal.

The Cheesemakers have just two games left in the regular season — Feb. 11 at South Central (Madison) and home on Feb. 13 against Beloit Memorial.

The WIAA also recently released the playoff seeds, and the Monroe co-op (9-13) was given a 10-seed and will have to travel to face the Waukesha co-op (9-12-1) in the opening round on Feb. 18. Since joining the WIAA for hockey in the 2012-13 season, Monroe has won just one playoff game (2018).
