DARLINGTON — Fennimore swept the Redbirds in a doubleheader May 6, 13-2 and 13-3.

Pecatonica 5, Highland 4

HIGHLAND — Triniti Gruenenfelder scored on a defensive miscue on a double steal in the top of the seventh inning, giving the Vikings the go-ahead run in a May 7 nonconference win at Highland.

Pecatonica had taken a 4-0 lead through four innings, but a 4-run sixth inning by the host Cardinals knotted up the score. With two outs, Gruenenfelder drew a four-pitch walk and stole second two pitches later and advanced to third on the following wild pitch during Chloe Schraepfer’s plate appearance. Schraepfer would walk, putting runners at the corners.

Courtesy runner Kelly Peterson broke for second during Tessa Green’s at bat, and an error by Highland’s third baseman allowed Gruenenfelder to score. Green struck out on a full count, but the damage was done.

Gruenenfelder was 2-for-2 in the game with a pair of walks and two runs scored hitting in the 3-hole. Lily busser tripled in a run from the leadoff spot.

We got our bats going, and played solid in the field,” Black Hawk head coach Talia Rothenbuhler said. “I was very pleased with the way the team stuck together, and fought back from behind. I think everyone could tell that the girls really wanted this game, and they did what they had to do to get it done.”
