Darlington shuts out Boscobel, swept by Pittsville

DARLINGTON — The Redbirds had a whirlwind of 24 hours, shutting out the Bulldogs 15-0 on Friday, April 5 and suffering a double-header sweep to Pittsville on Saturday, April 6, 8-3 and 15-3. 

In Friday’s contest, four players recorded multiple-hit games — Breylin Goebel, Tye Crist, Talan Crist and Maddox Goebel. At leadoff, Tye Crist went 3-for-5 with two RBIs and three runs scored. Maddox Goebel was 3-for-5 with one RBI and two runs scored. In the three hole, Breylin Goebel  went 4-for-5 with four RBIs. Talan Crist tallied two hits in two at bats, driving in two runs and scoring twice. Gage Banfield picked up the win, allowing just one hit over 5 1/3 innings. He struck out 10 and walked three. 

In the first game of the doubleheader with Pittsville on Saturday, Darlington gave up a 3-2 lead. The Panthers scored six runs in the top of the seventh, and the Redbirds left the bases loaded in the bottom of the frame, suffering the loss.

Darlington registered five hits from five different players, while the top of the order — Tye Crist and Maddox Goebel — drove in the only RBIs. Reagan Jackson was the pitcher on record, giving up two earned runs on four hits. He struck out five but walked four. Carson Mosley pitched one inning in relief, giving up four earned runs on three hits. He gave two free passes.

Errors and lack of offense got the best of the Redbirds in game two. Darlington had just three hits but committed five errors in four innings. Jackson reached base in both of his plate appearances, getting hit by a pitch and drawing a walk. Breylin Goebel took the loss, giving up five unearned runs on three hits.

EDGERTON 16, MONROE 1

MONROE — The Cheesemakers recorded more errors than hits, suffering a doubleheader sweep to the Crimson Tide on Saturday, April 6. In both contests, Monroe tallied two hits but committed five errors.

In Game 1, Ashton Hale and Eli Schaefer reached base in two of three plate appearances. Each tallied a hit and drew a walk. Keegan Dahmen and Cole Meighan also reached base with walks. Dahmen suffered the loss, giving up three earned runs on just one hit. He struck out five but walked seven. Cheesemaker pitching combined for 13 free passes.

In Game 2, Owen Gilberston and Owen Douglas recorded hits. Logan Meier, Hale and Schaefer drew walks. Ethan Rosenstiel took the loss, giving up seven earned runs on 12 hits. Ian Berg pitched 2 1/3 innings in relief and struck out five batters.
