Brodhead-Juda competes in Rock Valley Conference duals

RIVER VALLEY — Darlington-Black Hawk, Pecatonica-Argyle and Brodhead-Juda traveled to River Valley for the Rick Lawinger Invitiational on Saturday, Jan. 14. The Warbirds fared the best, finishing third (132.5 points) with two individual champions.

Breylin Goebel (152) and Ross Crist (195) paced the team with their first-place finishes. Goebel went 3-0 with two pins and a technical 17-2 technical fall. Eli Crist, who also weighed in a 152, took third with his lone win a 5-1 decision. After a first-round bye, Ross Crist earned his title with a pin and 10-3 decision.

Ethan Aird (113), Owen Seffrood (138) and Maddox Goebel (160) all finished second for the Warbirds. After a first-round bye, Aird pinned Lukas Orloff from Pecatonica-Argyle with nine seconds remaining in the second period. In the championship match, Aird lost bya 7-3 decision. Orloff went on to take third with a pin.

Seffrood dominated his first two opponents with a 17-2 technical fall and 12-2 major decision before narrowly falling in the championship 2-0. Joe Lohmar of Brodhead-Juda also wrestled at 138, taking third. He pinned his first opponents before losing to eventual champion Kellan Aure. In the third-place match, Lohmar won by a 4-0 decision.

Maddox Goebel received a first-round bye, which he followed up with a 18-3 technical fall. Peyton Fry then edged Maddox Goebel out in the championship 5-4.

Tye Crist (170) and Bryan Lazaro (285) took third. 

Pecatonica-Argyle finished sixth of seven teams with 87 team points. Aidan Gruenenfelder (106) and Jakob Orloff (120) were individual champions for the Vikings.

Gruenenfelder dominated all three of his opponents with a 40-second pin, 19-4 technical fall and 13-3 major decision. Orloff received a first-round bye, then advanced to the championship with an injury forfeit from Eli Aird of Darlington-Black Hawk. Mason Schulte bested Orloff 7-2 for the title.

The Cardinals, which placed seventh, had an individual champion in Marcus McIntyre (145).

He received a first-round bye, followed by a first-period pin. In the championship, McIntyre prevailed with a 5-3 decision.

Jameson Wallin (132) and Lohmar (138) also placed in the top three for Brodhead-Juda.

Earlier in the week, the Cardinals participated in the Rock Valley Conference duals, where they fell to Clinton 51-25 and Whitewater 54-30.

Emmitt Allen (220), CJ Steuly (195), Lohmar and McIntyre all went 2-0 at the event.
