Comets clinch share Six Rivers East
Basketball

ALBANY — With its 62-37 win over Black Hawk on Thursday, Feb. 2, Albany clinched at least a share of the Six Rivers East Conference title.

The Comets are currently 10-0 with two conference games to play, while second-place Eagles are 7-2 with three conference games to play. If Albany were to lose both games and Barneveld won out, the two teams would share the title, despite the Comets’ sweep of the Eagles.

Four Comets scored in double figures to defeat the Warriors, led by Alana Durtschi with 20 points. Gracie Freitag, who scored 16 points, grabbed a team-best seven rebounds. Abby Hollis and Avary Briggs chipped in 10 points each. Hollis made six free throws, while Briggs was perfect at the line and from beyond the arc.

Raylin Peterson was the only Warrior in double figure, scoring 19 points. Mya Milz trailed with nine points — all from beyond the arc — while Hailey Wellnitz snagged a team-high four rebounds.

BRODHEAD 51, BIG FOOT 14

WALWORTH — The Cardinals limited the Chiefs to just seven points in each half en route to a convincing Rock Valley Conference win on Thursday, Feb. 3.

Abbie Dix led the squad with her eleventh double-double of the season, recording 12 points with 14 rebounds. Alecia Dahl tallied 13 points with five steals, while Addie Yates chipped in 10 points, including three 3-pointers.

NEW GLARUS 61, BELLEVILLE 35

BELLEVILLE — Three Knights scored in double figures, resulting in a Capitol South Conference victory on Thursday, Feb. 2.

Lindsey Schadewalt led New Glarus with 25 points and 10 rebounds for a double-double. She was a perfect 5-for-5 from the free-throw line with a pair of 3-pointers — the only baskets beyond the arc for the Knights. Grace Nommensen tallied 14 points, also shooting 100% at the charity stripe. Payton Schneider also scored in double figures with a season-high 10 points.

At 7-0, New Glarus is one win away from at least a share of the conference title. To win the conference outright, the Knights must win two of its next three conference games or hope for a Cambridge loss.

DARLINGTON 69, IOWA-GRANT 35

DARLINGTON — The Redbirds never trailed in a SWAL Conference win on Thursday, Feb. 2.

Darlington bested Iowa-Grant in every statistical category except 3-point percentage (46%-28%) and defensive rebounds (19-17).

Kylie Butler and Jaidyn Evenstad tallied 11 points each to lead the squad offensively. Zoie Zuberbuhler also scored in double figures with 10 points, draining a pair of threes and making all four of her free throws. On the boards, Alyza Johnson snagged a team-best six rebounds.

OREGON 68, MONROE 17

OREGON — The Cheesemakers struggled to score against the Panthers, suffering the sweep on Thursday, Feb. 2.

Sophia Douglas led offensively, with seven points, followed by Lindsay Leuzinger with five points. The pair accounted for Monroe’s only baskets beyond the arc. On the boards, Taylor Jacobson grabbed four rebounds, all defensive. She also led the team in deflections (four), steals (two) and blocks (two).

BARNEVELD 65, ARGYLE 31

SHULLSBURG 74, ARGYLE 40

ARGYLE — The Orioles suffered two losses in as many days — one a conference game and one a conference crossover.

Jaylin Hartwig led the squad both games with 12 and 16 points, respectively. Mya McNett scored eight points against Barneveld, with six of them coming from the free-throw line. Alexis Rosenstiel was the second-highest scorer against the Miners, tallying seven points with a three.
