MONROE — Milton used three pitchers to combine for a 1-hit shutout of Monroe May 11.

Evan Jackson went five innings, striking out seven with two walks and allowing Monroe’s lone hit by George Brukwicki before being pulled for Adlai Smith in the sixth inning. Smith and fellow reliever Michael Birkhimer combined to strike out three batters and walk to more to close out the win. Milton’s Jack Campion finished the game with five steals and three runs scored in the leadoff spot. 

Henry Brukwicki tossed the first four innings for Monroe, giving up 7 runs (3 earned) on eight hits and two walks with four strikeouts. Colin Foley pitched two innings of relief, allowing an unearned run to score. Chase Stoerp pitched a scoreless seventh inning on just 12 pitches.

Pecatonica 12, Darlington 5

BLANCHARDVILLE — The Vikings used a 10-run third inning to fuel a nonconference win against Darlington May 10.

After leaving the bases loaded on back-to-back-to-back walks in the bottom of the second, Pecatonica took control of Redbird starter Braden Davis in the third inning. Kegun Brunker singled on a 3-1 count to open the inning, then Dakota Doescher walked on a full count. Hunter Enloe dropped a sacrifice bunt to advance the runners, and Bryce Johnsrud loaded the bases with a 5-pitch walk. 

Coy Ruegsegger singled in a pair of runs to give Pecatonica the 2-1 lead, and Davis balked in another run moments later. Elijah Knutson singled and Jameson Johnson walked to lead the bases a second time in the frame, which was followed by an RBI walk from Devon Doran. Tyler McKeon then struck out swinging against reliever James Hartwig, but the man who started it all, Brunker, walked himself to bring home a fifth run. Doescher then singled, followed by a 2-RBI double from Enloe. Ruegsegger singled home another run, and Knutson walked in the 10th score of the inning.

Davis was charged with 7 earned runs on three hits and seven walks in 2.1 innings. Hartwig was tagged for 3 runs in .1 innings with three walks and three hits. Cadyn Burbach pitched the final 3.1 innings for Darlington, allowing just two unearned runs. 

Knutson got the win on the mound for Pecatonica, pitching four innings and allowing three runs. Ruegsegger tossed 2.1 scoreless innings in relief, and McKeon allowed two unearned runs to score in the top of the seventh inning.

Ruegsegger was 2-for-4 with three RBIs. Breylin Goebel was 3-for-4 with two RBIs for Darlington, while Davis finished 2-for-3 with a walk. Cayden Rankin doubled for the Redbirds, while Davis had a triple.


Pecatonica 13, Johnson Creek 5

BLANCHARDVILLE — On May 11, Pecatonica overcame a 5-1 deficit with a 12-run sixth inning. 

Brunker was 3-for-5 in the game with two RBIs. Knutson also had two doubles and two RBIs, while Enloe brought home a pair of runners as well. Bryce Johnsrud also doubled for Pec.

Doescher pitched 5.2 innings with seven strikeouts for the Vikings. McKeon threw the final 1.1 innings.


Mineral Point 15, Darlington 1

MINERAL POINT — The Pointers scored three runs in the first and plated another in the second before an 8-run third put the game out of reach. Mineral Point added three more runs for good measure in the bottom of the fourth.

Brady Horne and Reagan Jackson had Darlington’s only two hits, with Horne knocking home Gage Banfield for the Redbirds’ lone run in the top of the fourth inning. 

Banfield started for Darlington and allowed seven runs in 2.1 innings of work. Goebel recorded five outs with five runs scoring. Horne also recorded two outs with three runs crossing the plate. Rankin walked a batter before getting the final out.

Liam Stumpf and Joah Filardo homered for Mineral Point, which collected 15 hits and nine walks while striking out just once.


Mineral Point 22, New Glarus 8

Cambridge 6, New Glarus 5

NEW GLARUS — The Glarner Knights had the state’s defending champion and preseason No. 3-ranked team on the ropes May 10, only to let a disastrous inning spoil the upset.

New Glarus led Mineral Point 7-6 through four innings, but the Pointers batted around the order twice on the Knights in the top of the fifth inning, scoring 16 runs — 11 of which were unearned. The Knights needed three pitchers and 70 pitches to get through the inning.

In the game, the Knights gave up just 13 hits, but walked 12 batters and hit two more. Just seven runs were earned thanks to six errors. Ten of the Pointers’ hits were singles, with three others doubles. New Glarus finished the game with just five hits and five walks, with Mineral Point making three errors and hitting a batter.

Cooper Dreyfus had two hits for New Glarus, while Carter Siegenthaler added a double. 

In the extra-inning loss to Cambridge May 11, the Knights committed another six errors in the field. Just three of the Bluejays’ runs were earned.

Peyton Mendleski tossed 4.2 innings to open the game for New Glarus, striking out four with one walk and allowing three hits. Just two of the four runs charged to him were earned. Kylo Barker threw three innings of relief, striking out six with two hits, three walks and just one of two runs earned.

In the bottom of the eighth inning, Barker struck out the first two batters on six straight strikes. The third batter of the inning walked on a full count and promptly stole second and third base. After another walk, Cambridge ended the game on a line drive walk-off hit to left field. 

Cooper Dreyfus was 4-for-4 with two doubles, three steals and three RBIs, while Easton Dreyfus hit a triple and Mendleski a double. The Knights struck out 14 times.


Southwestern 12, Argyle 2

ARGYLE — Clay Ritschard doubled for one of his two hits and added two walks, two runs and three steals at the plate for Argyle, which lose a nonconference game to the Wildcats May 10.

The teams were squared away at 2-2 through four innings, but a 4-run fifth put away the Orioles. Southwestern scored another run in the sixth to go ahead 7-2, and a 5-run seventh put the game out of reach. Argyle committed eight errors in the loss.

Max Godfrey tossed 4.1 innings, giving up two hits and seven walks. Two of the four runs he allowed were earned. Ritschard recorded five outs on the mound, two of which were strikeouts. He also allowed three unearned runs. Will Helfvogt pitched the seventh and allowed two hits and four walks. All five runs against him were unearned.


Brodhead-Juda 12, Monticello-Albany 5

Edgerton 11, Brodhead-Juda 3

MONTICELLO — The Cardinals went up 3-0 after the first inning and 7-1 through four to beat the Ponies May 10.

Conner Green had three hits, two RBIs and two runs for Brodhead-Juda in the leadoff spot. Jackson Fields had two hits for the Cardinals. Chase Harnack and Brady Malkow each scored three times and Dylan Lewis doubled.

Cooper Woelky beaned two batters, issued five walks and allowed another hit while striking out four and allowing just one run in three innings of work on the mound for the Cardinals. Mason Kammerer tossed two innings and struck out five. Evan Senobe and Kohen Sawle each came on in relief for Brodhead, with Sawle striking out all four batters he faced on just 16 pitches.

Monticello-Albany was charged with nine errors, which allowed for 8 unearned runs to score.

Tyler Anderson pitched four innings for Monticello-Albany, giving up 7 runs (1 earned) on seven hits and a walk. Andy Gertsch pitched the final three innings.

Jacob Letcher had a double and two RBIs, while Brayden Bakken also drove in two runs.

In the loss to Edgerton May 11, the Cardinals collected just three hits — two of which from Cade Walker.

Walker also pitched for the Cardinals, striking out four with four walks and seven hits in five innings of work. He gave up a home run to Payton Lee, and all seven runs against him were earned.

Lee also homered off Sawle, who took over in the sixth inning.
