BRODHEAD — The Cardinals took care of business in the opening round of the postseason on March 1, knocking off Parkview with ease 76-40.

Josiah Engen was one of three Brodhead seniors to score in double figures in what was likely the final game on their home court. Engen had 19 points, including three 3s. Owen Leifker scored 16 points for Brodhead, while Gage Boegli had 11 points. Brady Malkow, another Cardinal senior, nearly had a triple-double, finishing the night with nine points, nine rebounds and eight assists.

Brodhead assisted on 20 of 28 baskets in the game and finished 11 of 22 from downtown. The Cardinals also grabbed 36 boards and had 13 steals to just 10 total turnovers.

Trey Oswald led Parkview (8-16) with 17 points.

Up next for sixth-seeded and Rock Valley champion Brodhead (19-6) is No. 3-seed Marshall (18-6), the third-place Capitol South team that had a first-round bye. The game is set for March 4, with the regional final to be March 5 against either Poynette (4-21) or No. 2-seed Darlington (17-7).
