Brodhead bests Edgerton in five
volleyball stock

BRODHEAD — With its five-set win over Edgerton on Thursday, Sept. 14, Brodhead sits alone atop the Rock Valley Large standings at 3-0. The Cardinals topped the Crimson Tide in sets two, three and five by scores of 25-19, 25-17, 15-12. Edgerton took sets one and four 25-23, 25-23.

Allie Dahl and Makenna Schooff led the offense with 15 and 11 kills, respectively. Jaelyn Hilliard distributed the offense with 38 assists. Defensively, four players had double-digit digs — Addie Leifker (34), Ava Risum (18), Dahl (26) and Hilliard (16). Brynn Riesterer had a strong presence at the net with four blocks. The Cardinals served up 16 aces, led by Leah Rear with five. 


DELAVAN-DARIEN 3, MONROE 0

DELAVAN — Monroe fell to Delavan-Darien in three sets (25-22, 25-14, 25-23) on Thursday, Sept. 14. Chloe Fry, Courtney Hartwig and Sophie Golembiewski led with four kills each. Mya Wild contributed another three kills. At the service line, Kennedy Voegeli had two aces.


PECATONICA 3, JUDA 0

JUDA — The Vikings picked up a confidence-boosting win over the Panthers on Thursday, Sept. 14. Pecatonica swept Juda in three sets 25-14, 25-14, 25-12.

“Tonight was a great team win,” Pecatonica head coach Liz McGowan said. “The girls were loose and came out with energy from the start, ready to play. Everyone on our roster got in the lineup tonight and did great. The substitutions seemed seamless and as a coach I am not surprised because they have all been working hard and pushing each other in practice.”

As a result, Pecatonica received contributions from a number of players. Loretta and Anna Tish tallied seven and six aces, respectively. Diana Hendrickson led the team in kills with nine. Alyssa Cassidy dug out six balls, while Madelyn Cleary had one block. Anna Tisch and Maddie Hirsch split the setting duties with 17 and six assists, respectively. 


ALBANY 3, BLACK HAWK 1

SOUTH WAYNE — The Comets continue to climb in the Six Rivers East Conference with a victory on Thursday Sept. 14. In its winning sets, Albany made quick work of Black Hawk by scores of 25-9, 25-11 and 25-8. The Warriors won the second set 27-25.

Alana Durtschi led the Comets in kills with 14, while Anna Ellinger added another nine. Myah Johnson distributed to the hitters with 15 assists. Defensively, Durtschi had three blocks, while Rachel Wildt dug out 16 balls. At the service line, Ellinger tallied five aces.

Allyse Troemel led the Warriors with eight kills. Hailey Wellnitz recorded two blocks, while Makayla Kammes assisted in six kills. The trio of Peyton Downing, Keira Brunner and Troemel served up one ace each.


BARNEVELD 3, ARGYLE 0

BARNEVELD — The Eagles maintained its top spot in the Six Rivers East Conference with a clean sweep of Argyle on Thursday, Sept. 14. Barneveld won by scores of 26-16, 25-18, 26-14.

Kylie Butler led the Oriole offense with 17 kills, while Ava Wiegel distributed it with 22 assists. Defensively, Butler had 20 digs followed by Sadie Steiner with 16. At the net, Brooke Wellnitz tallied two blocks. 

In other local volleyball, New Glarus narrowly defeated Cambridge 25-23, 26-24, 25-23. Darlington also swept Boscobel in three sets.
