BH wins conf. title; Juda tops Albany in 5 sets

SOUTH WAYNE — Hannah Butler had 17 kills as Black Hawk blanked Pecatonica Oct. 4 in straight sets 25-17, 25-17, 25-16 to win the Six Rivers East crown outright.

Savannah Burmeister had 18 assists, Bailey Butler had 10 kills, and Sydney Delzer and Kristen Knapp each had three aces and two blocks for the Warriors. Black Hawk finished the night with eight aces and 39 kills.

Pecatonica was led by Lily Busser’s 15 digs.

Argyle had won the last three conference titles — including going unbeaten in each of the last two seasons — but the Warriors (11-0 conference) swept Argyle in both matches this year. 

Black Hawk would go on to win the North Crawford tournament Oct. 6.

Juda 3, Albany 2

JUDA — The Panthers blew a two-set lead before dominating the fifth set in a 25-10, 25-21, 22-25, 15-25, 15-3 win over the Comets Oct. 4.

“Albany really found their groove behind the serving of Mady Conway and strong setting from Payton Zurfluh,” Juda head coach Scott Anderson said.

In the final set Juda’s Triniti Elmer served on a 10-0 run that allowed the Panthers to finish strong.

Hannah Powers led the Panthers with 14 kills and three blocks, while Montana Steinmann had five aces and 17 digs. Karlee Kesler had 11 assists for Juda and Brianna Crull added three blocks.

Albany was led by Libby Beck’s 13 kills and seven blocks. Conway had four aces and 24 digs, McKenna Overland had 16 digs, Zurfluh finished the night with 41 assists and three aces and Brianna Dahl had 12 kills.


Monticello 3, Barneveld 0

MONTICELLO — Maggie Bak had five kills and seven blocks as the Ponies swept the Eagles 26-24, 25-17, 25-8 Oct. 4.

Abby Wicker led Monticello with 10 kills and three blocks, while teammate Hannah Zanow had six kills. Sara Blumer had four aces for the Ponies (7-4), as did Alyssen Noriega, and Lindsey Pence had 24 assists.


Brodhead 3, Evansville 0

EVANSVILLE — The Cardinals swept the Blue Devils 25-11, 25-18, 25-19 Oct. 4.

Alexis Oliver had five aces and seven kills for Brodhead, which also got three aces and 11 assists from Madiysn Kail, four kills and two blocks from Katie Goecks, and eight kills, three aces, a block, six digs and 21 assists from Abbey Johnson.
