SOUTH WAYNE — Argyle scored three runs in the top of the seventh to pull away from Black Hawk 10-7 in a Six Rivers East game April 11.
The Orioles let a 3-run lead slip away in the fourth, and South Wayne went up 6-4 after five innings. Argyle scored three runs in the sixth to take a brief 7-6 lead, but the Warriors tied it in the bottom half of the inning.
In the top of the seventh, Thomas Nelson, Mason McNett and Caden Stoeger each walked with the bases loaded. Carter Baumgartner came in to get the Warriors out of the frame.
McNett, Will Helfvogt and Buddy Gerber each had two hits for Argyle, with Gerber and Brady Penniston doubling. Stoeger had a triple, three walks, two runs and four RBIs. Helfvogt stole three bases.
Dempsey Schliem had two hits to lead the way for Black Hawk. He started on the mound and struck out seven in three innings, allowing two earned runs.
Pecatonica 8, Belleville 1
BELLEVILLE — The Vikings took care of business in a nonconference road game April 11 against the Wildcats.
Coy Ruegsegger tossed five innings, allowing a single unearned run on three hits and a hit batter with five strikeouts. Jameson Johnson pitched two innings, striking out three and giving up a single hit.
Elijah Knutson had three doubles and three runs for Pecatonica, while Johnson had a double and two singles. Bryce Johnson had two hits, including a double, and Ruegsegger had a hit. The Vikings had 13 hits in all.
Two days earlier, Pecatonica beat River Ridge 12-0. Johnsrud and Tyler McKeon each had two hits and three runs for the Vikings. Hunter Enloe struck out the side in two innings on the mound, while Johnson struck out five in two innings. McKeon added two strikes in his lone inning. The three combined to allow just two hits and three walks.
Beloit Turner 8, Brodhead-Juda 0
BRODHEAD — The Cardinals went toe-to-toe against one of the state’s top teams for six innings. In the seventh, the visiting Trojans plated seven runs to all but put the game away.
Brady Malkow started on the hill for Brodhead-Juda, tossing 6.1 innings with 10 strikeouts. He allowed four hits and four walks, hitting 102 pitches in the top of the seventh before being pulled. Just one of the three runs against him were earned. In the seventh, he struck out the leadoff batter, then an error and a single put two runners on.
Mason Kammerer came on in relief but walked all three batters he faced. Kohen Sawle then entered in relief, hit a batter and gave up another hit without recording an out. Clayton Elliott finished the frame, striking out two while allowing two runners.
Brodhead-Juda committed four errors in the game. Malkow had two of the Cardinals’ three hits against Jackson Burk, who struck out 13 and walked two.
Southwestern 4, Darlington 1
HAZEL GREEN — The Redbirds fell behind 4-0 after three innings and couldn’t catch up in their April 12 loss to the Wildcats in a SWAL contest.
Braden Davis and Gage Banfield doubled for two of Darlington’s hits, with Chase Figi reaching on a single. Davis and Breylin Goebel each walked.
Banfield took the loss on the hill, pitching the first three innings. Cadyn Burbach tossed the final three, allowing no runs on a hit and a walk.
Jordan Stanton and Tyler Brotzman combined to strike out 14 batters for Southwestern. In fact, Stanton brought his ‘A’ game, striking out all nine batters he faced on 41 total pitches.
New Glarus 13, Marshall 3
MARSHALL — The Glarner Knights took a two-run lead and added eight runs as insurance in the seventh against the Cardinals April 12 in a Capitol South Conference game.
New Glarus scored twice in the first, then added a single run in the second, third and sixth innings. The Knights led 5-3 headed into the seventh before the wheels fell off for Marshall.
Back-to-back errors put two on for the Knights, which then got back-to-back singles to plate a pair of runs. With one out, Brennan Butler walked to load the bases, then Patrick Alt singled home two more runners. Eli Zimmerman then walked to re-load the bases, and with two outs, Brett Warrell, who led off the inning, singled to third to score another run. Dylan Fritz then walked in a run, and Ethan Friedrich made it 13-3 with a two-run double.
Leyton Mihlbauer tossed a 1-2-3 bottom half of the inning on eight pitches, with a strikeout to end the game. Zimmerman allowed one run and struck out three in two innings of work, while Warrell gave up two runs in four innings with six Ks.
Alt, Mihlbauer, Friedrich and Easton Dreyfus all had two hits, with Warrell collecting a game-high three hits. Alt, Friedrich, Warrell and Zimmerman all doubled.
