PLATTEVILLE — After having the Six Rivers Conference title within reach in 2023, Albany boys set their sights on claiming the title in 2024. The Comets complete their revenge tour, defeating River Ridge to claim the league title on May 13.
“It certainly wasn’t easy, and we knew that it would be later in the meet before we would catch River Ridge based on both team’s strengths; however, I was hoping it would have been a little earlier than it happened, but I’m definitely excited for the boys to come out on top — first time since 2008,” Albany head coach Tony Brewer said.
Albany boys won eight events, four of which came from Bryce Hughes in his perfect 40-point night. Caleb Smith swept the throws, and Jayden O’Bel won the 1,600-meter run.
On the girls side, Argyle-Pecatonica fell short to B-SM-S 156-136. Brooke Wellnitz, who took second in the triple jump with a leap of 32-01.50, broke a nearly 30-year old school record.
