MONROE — The Associated Press came out with the first prep football poll of the season and a slew of local teams received votes.

In the Medium Division, which is made up of schools with enrollments between 301-899 students, New Glarus-Monticello and Brodhead-Juda each received one vote. Both schools won their season-opening games and look to make a run toward their conference titles. Mount Horeb was third and Waukesha Catholic Memorial was first with defending state champion Amherst second.

In the Small Division, with school enrollments under 300 students, Black Hawk was ranked sixth. Fond du Lac Springs, the state champion in Division 6, received nine of the 10 first place votes, with defending Division 7 state champion Bangor receiving the other and taking second place. Lake Country Lutheran, which played at Darlington Friday, was third.

Receiving votes in the small school division were Pecatonica-Argyle, Darlington, Belleville and Potosi-Cassville, which came in 11th in total voting.

The prep poll is voted upon by a statewide panel of sports writers and is released every Tuesday night.

In the Illinois prep poll, defending Class 1A champion Lena-Winslow is ranked No. 1, with four first place votes, one spot ahead of Tuscola, the team the Panthers beat in the 2017 state championship 21-20. Dakota is tied for 11th.
