25 years later, MHS again sends five to state

EAST TROY — The Monroe Cheesemakers will have five players competing in the WIAA Boys State Tennis Tournament on Thursday, June 4 at the Nielsen Tennis Stadium in Madison. It is the most players from Monroe going to state since 2001.

Coach Matt Bordner and the Cheesemakers returned to Monroe from East Troy on Thursday night with the sectional runner-up trophy. Monroe was second place at the Division 2 East Troy sectional on Thursday, May 28 with 34 points.

In Division 2 doubles, sophomore Travis Saunders and junior Graysan Bartolf qualified for state through the sectional, winning the No. 2 doubles tournament outright and will face Judah Edlund and Josh Henke of Martin Luther at 7 p.m. on Thursday, June 4.

Also in Division 2 doubles, senior Carsen Bartholf and senior Hamilton Stites reached State as special qualifiers and will face Andrew Joeckel and Max Hemann of Shorewood at 6:45 p.m. on Thursday, June 4.

In Division 2 singles, senior Alex Geritts was a special qualifier and will take on Wyatt Andrew of University Lake School at 5:45 p.m. on Thursday, June 4.
