JUDA - Junior Nicki Becker tossed a one-hit shutout to lead the Juda-Albany softball team to a 10-0 five-inning win over Racine Lutheran in a WIAA Division 4 regional championship game on Friday.
Becker pitched a complete game to get the win. She struck out 10 and walked none. Racine Lutheran never had a runner reach second base.
"She had a dominating performance," Juda-Albany coach Bill Davis said of Becker. "She was hitting her spots. It's fun to watch. When she is on she's very impressive."
The game was delayed more than two hours after a heavy afternoon rainstorm and didn't start until 7:15 p.m.
The regional title is the third straight for the Panthers.
"It's amazing what these kids have accomplished," Davis said. "Regional titles certainly don't come easy. I'm proud of the girls. It's quite an accomplishment."
Juda-Albany (23-2) advances to a Division 4 sectional semifinal game. The top-seeded Panthers will host second-seeded Parkview (13-11) at 5 p.m. Tuesday.
Becker helped her own cause by going 2-for-2 with two RBI. The Panthers had a six-run first inning to take an early lead.
"Scoring six runs in the first inning, we really took that momentum," Davis said.
Juda-Albany had 13 hits as a team. Junior Sammi Detra went 2-for-3 with two RBI. Senior Riley Adkins finished 2-for-2, and junior Haley Freitag went 2-for-3. Senior Alexis Goecks was 2-for-4.
"I thought we were the better team coming in," Davis said. "I knew they were a good team."
