GIRLS BASKETBALL: Darlington topples Platteville

DARLINGTON - The Darlington girls basketball team rolled to a 65-31 non-conference victory Tuesday over Platteville.

The Redbirds (5-1, 1-1, SWAL) jumped out to a 17-10 lead and built a 34-18 halftime lead.

"We did a nice job of getting out and running the floor," Darlington coach Kurt Cohen said. "I thought our quickness really put Platteville in a hole."

The Redbirds were led by junior Ashley Martin, who scored 19 points, and senior Katie Martin, who added 14.

BRODHEAD - Kristen Ruchti scored 17 points and Dana Lewis added 15 as the Cardinals dropped Walworth Big Foot in Rock Valley South action Tuesday night.

The Cardinals trailed 14-8 after the first quarter but tied the score by halftime at 20-20.

Ruchti scored 10 of her points in the half and Lewis scored 8.

Brodhead led 36-33 at the end of the third quarter.

Down the stretch, the Cardinals connected on 7 of 12 free throws, and finished 11-of-18 in the game from the charity stripe.
